So you are saying you are for the creation of SuperPac's in Canada by large multinational corporations?
ROTFLMAO!!! They are for anything Ford opposes. The purest Pavlovian response.

Anyone doubt we have a dictator on our hands here?
Quebec has used it many times …

I also don’t think the unions should be permitted to spend a dime on political ads/ campaigns as workers are forced to pay in and the unions spend it on things members are often against

So again, you are fine with multinational corps setting up SuperPacs in Canada like the USA? Because that's what this would allow unless stopped.

Just because it's only been unions now(which is the ONLY REASON the Libs and NDP are crying) doesn't mean they wouldn't start.

THey can only do this if they are conducting business in Ontario

The law is shamelessly designed to hurt the NDP More then the cons. The cons can rely on a lot more personal donations while NDP and LIB supporters are typically not as rich. This year I will donated the max 400 and next year as well to the party most likely to defeat DOFO. They I will pray they are not worse. I really hope for a minority govt.

In addition, the unions vs government/ taxpayer always have an adversarial relationship

The Ontario Teachers union has one of the largest pension plans in the world
It is well managed and well funded
meanwhile the province (where all the funding for that plan originated) has the highest non -sovereign debt load per capita in the world

Teachers should teach and if they choose be politically active as individuals, not as union stooges

Yup. And many do. My SO works for a multinational. A huge one. An American one. They have offices here. Should they be able to put up ads for a year without oversight or limit just because they tack Canada on the end?

Or. How about Rogers say doing it because they want a new Stadium and a candidate favors it? Gas companies? Developers?

Right now its the unions. But without this bill the floodgates open. The opposition would have worded the bill to exempt unions in their favor(public service ones). Thats why Horvath was so shrill and Pissy. She just lost millions in free attack ads for a year.

This levels the field. Only individual donations and the parties are responsible for their messaging. As it should be.

Doug Ford is really worried that the teachers union will outspend his corporate buddies?
Guess those businesses don't love him as much as the right wing thinks.

The law does not discriminate based on political affiliation

There i fixed that for you

Do not despair, Doug Ford's performance wrt COVID has disappointed many
That said Granny Wynne and Trudeau will have a lot of people very reluctant to vote liberal
and Andrea ??? Yikes !, Sorry we tried that once (bob Rea) once was enough

This year I will donated the max 400 and next year as well to the party most likely to defeat DOFO.
Good for you, why don't you split the donation, 200 for the liberals , 200 for the NDPs?
They will be interchangeable on the important issues & neither will make a dent in the provinces unsustainable debt
Too bad you can not split your vote

They I will pray they are not worse.
That is almost as bad as voting for Justin because he has a famous last name
Do you not think supporting the party that best aligns with your views might be a better approach ?

I really hope for a minority govt.
You might get your wish , however minority govts do not work well
A conservative minority would be doomed as they would have nobody to team up with

The law is designed to stop large entities from influencing elections. And yes Govt unions are large entities with a genuine fiscal stake in elections. Its arguably the most blatant quid pro quo. They get better contracts depending on who is in office.

They are only mad because they were net beneficiaries. If it was corporate cash going into Cons Coffers at that rate for sweetheart contracts you would be screaming.

Best way is no one can.

GTA & Thereabouts...
From what I understand, I'm with Doug Ford on this one... This action was actually started by the Wynne Liberal administration... Before the PC's were even voted in.

Anyways... I'm up for some anarchy.

Don’t see this going well for Ford.
The guy refused to show up to the legislature for months after he totally fucked the vaccine delivery and closures.
So now he wants to bring them back because he's worried about his election next year?

Nice priorities, stay home during the biggest wave of the pandemic and then recall legislature for pure politics?
