Does time seem to pass by faster as you get older?

It seemed like only yesterday that it was Christmas, and now it is Christmas again. Yet, as a kid Christmases seemed to be an eternity apart. Does the second half of your life pass by faster than the first half too? What's going on here?

That is the key indicator that we're getting old. This year blew by at a rapid speed. Or that's how it seems because of age. Just try and enjoy the days and don't take time for granted...

It seems to go faster to me. One explanation I heard was our perception of how quickly time passes changes because a certain amount of time(let's say one year) represents a smaller percentage of our life as we get older. When we are 10 years old one year represents 10%. When we are 40 years old one year represents 2.5%. When we are 80 years old one year represents 1.25%.

The more bored you are, slower time seems to pass.
The more anxious you are for something, slower time seems to pass.
The more you suffer discomfort, slower time seems to pass.
Like waiting for the booker to give you the apartment code in the middle of January lmao.
Go to an unplugged retreats where you dont watch TV, or use your phone and computer and you will find days just crawl.

More responsibilities, more things that you need to get done - Time flies

Less responsibilities, less things need to get done - Time goes by slow

I’m in my late 50s now and feel this year has gone by so quickly. It was a busy year. Wondering if the perception of time will slow down when I retire in a couple of years. Maybe some retirees can offer their perspective?

I'm semi-retired. I work from home only a couple of hours a day for a private charitable foundation.

Still I can't believe how quickly the weeks keep rolling around...

I've been retired for 4 years. It seems like time flies since I retired.
Summers really fly by. Busy with golfing, yard work and so many other things to do in the nice weather.

My neighbours said, " Days are slow, months fly by."
I see my "therapist" every couple weeks and it seems like a long time in between sessions.

Ya this theory is well documented. Ad to the fact the amount of down time, self regulation and what not has not be learned. Most kids fail the marshmallow test when first exposed to it but many adapt and learn to wait and get more marshmallows by waiting 5 minutes.

Further your free time is less, many people don't have hours to kill at a time - if such time does come up they want to use it for some activity they don't usually have time for. When your younger most people have lots of down time - out of work, lack of funds for fun and less responsibilities.

As well as your body has more energy - when your young you can do it every day many times but don't usually have the opportunity, and later you need rests between excitements. The days measured by what your body can do are longer. Once you can do a 20 km hike no problem and then 1 km walk seems to take the same time . . .
