Does gold need to be stamped to be sold here in Canada?

I recieved a gold ring for my birthday this morning... but it doesn't look all that spectacular... there are three small "diamonds" and the rest is just textured white gold or silver to kind of mimic more diamonds or something... it's really ugly. Anyway, I went to look for the stamp and there was none there. I joked that the person who gave it to me got it out of a gumball machine and was reassured that they did not get it out of a gumball machine, but from a small jewelry store down the street. I have never in my life recieved "real" jewelry without a stamp. Even good fake jewelry comes with a stamp.

So my question is, is it real?
Or is this person trying to pass some discount piece of crap on me as the real deal?

Best ring I got was a gumball machine ring. It was from my son on my birthday when he was about 5 yrs old.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth sweetie. Someone thought of you on your special dayand it is the thought that counts. There are quite a few on this board that don't even have that.

BTW - Happy Birthday.

and PS - you can walk into any jeweler or pawn shop, they will confirm for you if it is real fast then anyone here. We can't see the ring to even make a judgement.

I do agree with this, however, the simple act of giving a gift does not, in and of itself, indicate that any real "thought" was involved in the act.

Yeah, I don't like accepting things from him. But he has changed a lot. He deosn't lie as much. He used to lie about everything. I brought him back into my life because I thought he stopped but if he's trying to pass this thing off as something other than a fake (if it is). I don't want him around me.

if you don't want him around you but are prepared to take from him an ugly piece of jewelry that seems like fake, you must be a very intelligent person with a lot of integrity and character.

I'm not sure that this is a good "test". Maybe he just doesn't have the money to get you a nice gift. Challenging the authenticity of the ring may not prove your point. Even if he lied, is he lying to hurt you, because he's defensive because he couldn't afford more or what?

You thought he stopped lying. Now you know that he "doesn't lie as much". Is a little lying ok?

If you love him, take it (and him) for what it is and enjoy your day.

If not, kick his ass to the curb. If you don't have trust, that relationship is going nowhere.

Here's the problem - you don't trust him. If you sweep this under the rug, the only message he will get is that he can get away with it. AGAIN.

If you're looking for assurance that he's changed, then get the proof. Otherwise, this will nag away at you.

People never ever change.

Even if you are on occasion wrong, holding this belief as a solid rule will benefit anyone greatly. The bullshit you avoid will vastly outweigh lost chances.

I can't understand why are you still with this guy. He disrespects you and abuses you and in order to fix things he buys you fake jewllery. You should really get Rid of him and get some help for yourself.
