I rarely check voicemail and get annoyed when people leave messages instead of texting. It actually seems rude to me now.

I guess its a generational thing because I leave voice messages and I get voice messages on a consistent basis.

What is rude about leaving a voicemail.? If you don't want to be bothered checking voicemail then remove it from your plan. Not everyone is calling from a mobile that can text. Landline calls do still exist.

What drives me crazy is I leave a voicemail, the person calls me back and haven't listened to the voicemail and then I have to repeat it again from memory.

You are right, it is not rude. But it does seem that way. I still have voicemail for the older people in my life.

I think the only voicemails I get anymore are from my parents, my dentist and that irritating Chinese citizenship scam.

The latter especially pisses me off because my father was in the hospital twice last year and when I see I have a missed call, I start to get nervous.

Always check voice mail when I see I have them since they're usually of some importance. There are some scam calls but I laugh at those and then block those numbers. Actually prefer voicemails to txting.

checking voice mail is a hassle. especially with so many spam calls. that's why I ensure I have visual voicemail on my phone. I can simply read the transcription of the call and more quickly decide whether or not to responds

I delete the VMs right away unless I notice the call is from someone with some importance, otherwise I can't be bothered.
If I see your number, great, you called I'll call you back.

I always check because it could be a reminder about a doctor or dentist appointment or that a prescription has been filled. I sometimes forget to set a reminder on my phone.

If you have voicemail, you are inviting the caller to leave a message, so check it FFS. To not do so is rude and / or unprofessional. If you don’t want voicemail messages, get rid of voicemail. It’s simple.

Well said. Some people assume that if they call you and you don't answer and they don't leave a message that you will call them back. I've given up on that. It assumes you have caller ID and also that the call wasn't a butt dial. If the person calls and doesn't leave a voice mail (or sends an email or text with something more than 'please call me') I don't call them back.
