Do you need a purpose in life?

Lately I have been thinking of moving to thailand, I have an online business that could allow me to live ok there, not living it up by any stretch, more advertising would probably help. I hate to have to sell my house but may have to, the funds I could have extra income from dividend investments. I know I could rent but living there and having tenants here might add extra worry as I have had rentals and tenants before.

I wouldn't really have a purpose in life, get up go for a massage, then maybe some sex. I've also grown tired of the cold weather. I have a trade so finding work is easy but the work is becoming harder as I age. My only purpose here is to work, no kids etc. so I don't do much here either. Not too many hobbies or social life, not into the saturday night hockey gatherings or poker gatherings or being around people in general, nor them me lol.

I spent almost 6 months there this year, most of the lockdown, March to august, was able to return in Ausgust. I always thought I would want to drink and party all the time if I moved there but I kind of gotten tired of hangovers the last few years so my drinking has reduced a lot, never drank a whole lot, few times a year.

Do you need a purpose in life to get up every day?

Got by without one so far. However I kind of get the feeling things might have gone better if I had committed to one earlier on.
Heard somebody say
Learn to love to work. Then you will never work a day in your life.
Learn to love to learn. Then you will never be bored.
Learn to love to give. Then you will never be poor.

Nobody will ever love work who has to work outside, more like tolerate. I wonder how many people love their work? I've worked in work camps in mining and fort mcmurray and hated every second of it. Part of me wants to have as much sex as possible while I can. I should have set better goals when I was younger.

Is it possible to be really successful when you don't really enjoy being around people, I don't know?

Nope not at all.

Just need to be present in presence and self actualize.

If you don’t then IMO you need a purpose because boredom and yourself will be killing you softly with your internal thoughts and words.

The worst feeling is fearing that at the end of your life you've done nothing.

This is a pretty good book, that touches on what you may be thinking about.

Interesting, I should read it. My current job pays the bills. I am contemplating a career change but the thought of the excitement when I'm riding up the elevator with a thai hooker and the thrill of it is hard to ignore. Maybe it comes down to how much sex matters in ones life?

I agree. I hated working outside. Most of my earlier jobs meant a bus ride to the outskirts of town to a pile of dirt to work on. I sucked at it. Realized that I wasn't cut out of pioneer/homesteader stock. So I got out of it. The parameters in the aphorism only apply within reason. I started to avoid jobs that were so bad I wouldn't show up on Tuesday. As they used to say "If I had only known then what I know now" but they would never tell you.

IMO it’s more important to experience especially with other people and form and build on connections.

If you do things but miss out on the experience, how you felt and your connections with others during your doing and living then it’s pointless.

When you are on your death bed will it matter how much money you had, how many times you bungee jumped or went to space or will it matter how you made others feel and the experiences you shared with others.

I will echo what others said above, purpose and goals are not the same thing. Does everyone need a purpose? Probably not. But life without goals sounds boring and dissatifying. What separates one day from the next when living like that?

Maybe it comes down to what do you think most about, for any guy it's sex. It never leaves our mind. I remember when I was in Amsterdam and plowing this beautiful german girl in her ass and it was sheer joy, then fucking a stunning russian, followed by a more stunning polish girl. I can always move back home I guess.

Another fear would be becoming the guy with the largest bank account in the graveyard.

Goals might be more for young people, once you reach a certain age you realise your best years are behind you and marriage, kids and grand kids are no longer an option. Then it becomes what makes you happiest, even if there is no purpose to it.

Read this book of fiction before you make the decision

It’s a very accurate account of how good the girls are over there at taking what they want and running scams.

I don’t need a life purpose but I need projects. Generally one big one a year or 2 smaller ones.

It can be anything from Reno work to something new for work to trying some new recreational hobby. It has to be something.

As I get older, it gets harder to come up with things. This summer was good because of fishing. My “project” was catching a Muskie and when I did at the end of the season, it was awesome.

For winter this year, I have no idea. With COVID it is hard and last winter I did a mini makeover on the house. So I don’t need anything there.

I think for the winter I will do a file and photo inventory. Going through all my files and ensuring backups, throw out dated stuff, clean out both the file cabinet and the computers. Then all the pics. I want to make some more physical photo albums of digital pics.

If I am stuck inside, may as well get one of the crappy jobs done. Although doing the pics will be nice.

Goals don't have to be a young persons game. And they don't have to be domestic or work related. One of my goals is to actively be more involved in my various art mediums. Another one is to continue to build up an investment portfolio. Some goals might be loftier than others, but they give me focus, whichever direction that may be any given day. And I also check in to make sure that I still desire the same things I did previously, sometimes a goal may change.

I think, from your posts in this thread, your goal is to have sex with a lot of Asian women, in that case, a move to Thailand sounds ideal for you.

Goals might be more for young people, once you reach a certain age you realise your best years are behind you and marriage, kids and grand kids are no longer an option. Then it becomes what makes you happiest, even if there is no purpose to it.
