Do tats on a woman mean she is trashy?

My buddy and I were having a drink together and a woman passed us and my buddy says "look, that chick has a tramp stamp."

Wanting clarification of what he meant by tramp stamp, he proceeded to tell me girls that have a lot of tats are trashy. Being neutral on the subject myself (honestly, never really thought about it other than my preference for tat-less women) he began argument to defend his position that women who have tats are usually less educated, have non-professional jobs, less affluent, speak with expletives and are generally the type that you would not want to take home to your mother unless you live in a trailer park. Yes, he is direct!

He conceded that his theory would be correct the majority of the time but not all of the time since there are always exceptions to the rule.

He seems to stereotype the "tat = trash" theory some people have but I know several people that have tats that don't fit that mold but would have to admit they are not professionals. I know some posters will say they know doctors, attorney's, etc that have tats but is my buddy correct that those are more exceptions to the rule?

By the way - what a conversation to have with your buddy over drinks - pathetic! What a boring night out on the town!

That might be true for the older generation, but for those of us who grew up in the late 80's or 90's, tattoos are much more common, even appealing.

Face it, as we become more of a global village, we take fads and customs from all over the world. Body art is starting to permeate even in corporate circles, as I know of a few people in low and medium management who are inked, some have it visible when wearing short sleeves.

So your buddy's not wrong per se. He's just a bit backward in his views.

I think getting a tatoo implies a certain lack of self respect. Female or male.

LOL! My Buddy and I are in our 30's - does that mean we are backward in our views? LOL!

To your point, I agree tats are a lot more prevalent today but that doesn't make it acceptable to all.

Those that have them - isn't it painful? I watched someone get one on TV and it looked painful as hell.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.

Tattoos aren't for everyone. Some find them sexy, some don't. That's personal preference. But to draw the conclusion that someone is a whore or lacks self respect shows how close minded some people are. To the original poster, your friend seems like a douchebag.

First impressions; tattoos, like cloths tell people a lot about you.

Example: someone with a tattoo across their neck is more likely to be an all-in wrestler than an aspiring Prime Minister.

Depends where you get them. Also, it depends of your pain tolerance. I don't mind the pain at all, due to my years doing full-contact.

And yes, it does mean your views are outdated, and pretty western-centric. Tattoos mean different things to different people. To some, it's a rite of passage, to others, it has spiritual significance. Go to Laos or Thailand, you'll see plenty of tats to attract favourable spirits or repel bad ones.

I always thought that a "tramp stamp" referred exclusively to a lower back tattoo?
Tattoo's used to mean low class, Harley's used to mean Hells Angels. Tell your friend it is time to crawl out of the cave. Society is blending.

Tramp stamp is just generic slang for a lower back tattoo, and really does not imply anything negative. However it does allow you to aim properly when doing anal.

Short answer, certainly not. I will agree that getting a tatoo of a lawn mower above your pubic hair is trashy (I've actually seen this one!), or getting a boyfriends name tattoo'd around your nipple. But the majority are not. You may not neccessarily LIKE tattoos, but that doesn't make them trashy in and of itself. Tattoos are a form of expression. I love mine. I think they are feminine and attractive. They are easily hidden when necessary and things I will enjoy looking at for the rest of my life. I'm not covered in them by any means and none are offensive. And you can tell your friend, I have several tattoo's, am well educated, and held a professional job in a very respected office downtown for over 3 years.

*sigh* I'm giving out information. Society changes, morals change, attitudes change. I'm not validating a position I'm stating facts, past truths if you will.

Canada has become a very diversified culture as more cultures bring their beliefs. We will always argue over what is right and what is wrong, but we will always incorporate new ideas and ideals that we like. A "blend" of the new and the old that becomes something different.

Maybe relax and have drink.... :) ( I hear a1 needs a buddy tonight.)

It means her inner maniac is screaming to get out and that she is pretty open minded sexually. Why else do you think they put a tramp stamp on themselves, other than to draw your attention to their lower back that you will see when doing them doggie style?

God bless the bad girls and their tattoos, they make the vanilla girls look like old grannies.

This topic has been discussed here on TERB a lot! It's strictly personal, however, I don't like tattoos.
