You have a very different take on Remembrance Day than I do.

But yes, German officials and veterans (not SS mind you) have been at many memorial situations.

How did you get it so twisted?

It wasn't about Germans, Italians, Japanese or other nations.

Our veterans fought ideology - fascism.

Unfortunately, there are some countries in Europe (not Germany) that still celebrate Waffen SS by marching through cities while the rest of the world is peacefully watching.

Remembrance Day isn’t about an particular war or conflict. it’s not about what side you were on. It’s about the sacrifice that those in the military made for the rest of us to defend our country, society and way of life.
This includes all wars and conflicts. It’s not about “kicking the shit out of the Germans”.

All wars and conflicts involve two sides, and in most cases it's pretty hard to argue that both sides are fighting for freedom and virtue. If some soldiers are fighting to preserve peace and liberty, then logically some must be fighting for the opposite goal.

Remembrance Day is observed in Commonwealth member
nations. I don't think the Germans have to respect it more than
the Russians, Chinese or Japanese.

The Germans and the Japanese are not thrillled about Remembrance Day and those who saw action in WWIIon both sides are almost all gone.
Japanese school kids learn nothing about Japanese history from 1895 to 1945 while Germany is constantly reminded about what happened.

In Germany, Remembrance Day is not celebrated, but they have a public holiday on the Friday nearest to July 17, to celebrate the birthday of David Hasselhoff, (since reunification).
