These stories always blow me away. I just attribute human trafficking to third world countries with shady corrupt police departments. I guess as long as prostitution is illegal and unlicensed, there is a place in the shadows where these scum can survive.

Not really. Even in places with legalized prostitution you will find human trafficking.
