I have been watching old TV shows on Youtube and there is one episode where the plot revolves around the escort business where guys pay $50 to have diner dates with women. Did this really happen or was there extras involved. Anyone in the hobby back then?

Massage parlours were $20. and for total $50. you could get her nude and get a handjob at the very least. SPs were at least $100. an hour. There was not the competition of today and the Asian influence was non existant, which has definitely had an effect on GTA prices. It was discreet but available including BBFS in some cases if you were a gambler. Different world.

shitt... you'd have to be really desperate and probably a retard to pay $50 for sex in 1972. I'd much rather join a hippy club back then

As a reference point, I purchased my first home in 79; it was 15,000; (1,100 sqft)I also purchase a 80 Cordoba for 2,899.99 tax rate was (if I recall) 7% my income at the time was 18,000 annually....

Spin forward and just adjust for COLA - in '79 my income and home covered the my debt.
Today my house is 800K (2,500 sqft) and I'm driving a mid 50K SUV; under the same logic my income should be 850K ...

Yes, dinner with a "Nice Lady" in the late 70' was an extra 50 -100 and nothing extra (I was in Texas at the time)

Something to think about

Inflation is inflation. But it also depends on which market you're looking at because inflation in certain markets may be higher or lower than the general.

Using this:
http://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/related/inflation-calculator/

$50 in 1972 would equal $274 today.

Keep in mind however this does not account for that specific field. I would expect the price for upper class escorts to have gone up at least ten fold due to social conditions not limited to HIV and lower crime rates.

As someone has mentioned, I think depending on your social group, casual sex in the 1970s was indeed higher than today. Despite the fact the opposite is often argued by the mainstream, teen pregnancy rates do not correlate with higher number of sexual partners. Not to mention that from everything I've heard from people who lived in that time period, if you were in a particular scene, you got a lot more exposure than the average joe.

I do agree the rate was probably $50 an hour, and that would be a fair rate for 1972.

But then I heard this old line how back in the day, whenever that was, you could denote service within the cash margin of $100, with $10 being the cost of a LD, $20 for a HJ, $50 for a Blow and $100 for FS.

Really not sure about that calculator... I put in an 8,000 expense in 1979 (say a Cadillac in 1979) it equated that to 24,000 today; this is a KIA or a mid range GMC... Where did my Caddy go... My 79 Fleetwood did everything but wipe my butt... even had a hand warmer in the steering wheel, auto dimming headlights and crap only found on BMW's now

It is quite accurate actually.

What it doesn't factor in is wage increases for the upper-middle and above as well as cost of certain materials, etc.

Don't forget when factoring in cars, there was no mandatory insurance back in the day either.

Minimum wage in Ontario today is $10.25, the minimum back in 1979? I'd get $3?
