Really not sure about that calculator... I put in an 8,000 expense in 1979 (say a Cadillac in 1979) it equated that to 24,000 today; this is a KIA or a mid range GMC... Where did my Caddy go... It is quite accurate actually.
What it doesn't factor in is wage increases for the upper-middle and above as well as cost of certain materials, etc.
Don't forget when factoring in cars, there was no mandatory insurance back in the day either.
