No, you are comparing very different situations.. The criminal in this case has been arrested and charged "a day after the attack on complaints of first-degree murder, burglary, assault with a dangerous weapon and two complaints of armed robbery".

Zimmerman was held by police after he stalked and murdered Trayvor Martin, but released without being fingerprinted or charged, and the police did not bother to investigate further even though Zimmerman's story was obviously bogus.
That's why it's getting attention.

Police arrested two white men yesterday for a shooting spree in Tulsa, Okla., early Friday that left three black people dead and two others wounded and terrorized the city’s African-American community.
And, though police yesterday wouldn’t label the carnage a hate crime, one of the suspects raged on Facebook hours before the killings that his father had been gunned down by a black man two years ago.
“Today is two years that my dad has been gone shot by a f--king n----r it’s hard not to go off ,” suspect Jake England wrote on Thursday at 4:04 p.m.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, England, 19, and roommate J. Alvin Watts, 32, allegedly went hunting for black pedestrians, shooting them on sight.

Not much in the first tale to warrant wide attention. A bad man did a bad thing in secret, was caught and will be tried. In the Florida case a bad man, carrying a gun had roan=med th streets for some time, in spite of being warned by the authorities who did nothing else to stop him. Eventually he shot and killed another man who was out on an innocent errand to buy candy. The authorities did nothing significant about that killing on their streets.

Almost no reason to think there's any similarity, beyond a desperate, clumsy attempt to make the story about bad laws and enforcement into one about race. But you failed Scarey.

Now, to the thread.When someone states"Devil's advocate" it generally means they are taking the unpopular flip-side of the arguement.It does not compare to desperation or clumsiness.The point was not about colour but a comparison of a crime containing horrific actions(The rape and murder of a 85 year old woman) vs a crime containing horrific consequences( a unpunished murder) and why one would get more media attention then the other.Black and White signified how they are preceived by the media and obviously..you.
When you hear Black and White...you think race.I hear it and think contrast.Desperation indeed.

I think 'youth' would be more appropriate. The term 'boy' when describing a black youth would likely be coming from someone like the armed racists now roaming those streets.

Seems to me as in most cases, there are 3 sides to every story.

I think the OP does raise a valid point that depending on the race of people involved in a story it may or may not get as much attention (in general).

This particular case though is of interest because of what happened after the shooting.

Regardless of what the teens past was like. The man who shot him should have been held and a proper investigation should have been conducted. The racial issue just adds fuel to the fire. Charges of manslaughter and defenses such as self defense are based on the idea that a killing should be a legal matter for the courts to decide. In this case somehow it was deemed not court worthy. To me that is perplexing..... but I'm not a lawyer so who knows.....

What if it was a black guy who shot a white teen.....

Also, I thought for some reason it was meentioned that Zimmerman was latin (odd given his lastmane) and to me that's not white/caucaisan
