Design Compeition for the new St. Lawrence Market (north market) - here we go again.

So I guess the City of Toronto is proposing to tear down the north market and replace it with a new structure for 75 mil. All well and good since what's there really is a P.O.S.

Never the less, check out the crazy ideas that they have in store for us. The blue design is an absolute abortion.

The Green design draws its inspiration (sort of) from the existing market, but even it reminds me of some over-done glass atrium styled Loblaws.

Why is it that the architects involved can't design something in keeping with the history of the area?

Those are indeed the finalists.

Could be worse I suppose, they could be bolting a Micheal Lee Chin Crystal on the side of the old Market.

I like the red design:

1) lots of natural light
2) the center is open thus leads the eye to the south market
3) the ground floor is open to the street & thus more inviting, compared to the green design

But it needs more natural brick (maybe they could use it for the interior columns to give it some warmth) and I'm not a fan of those whatever-you-call-its that hang from the outside and don't seem to have any function.

(god knows TO needs more architectural interesting buildings)

If I had a choice, I'd go for Orange.

I'd say "none of the above", but the Green one isn't too bad since it tries to incorporate the look of the part across the street.
None are as bad as the crystal thing attached to the museum.

The existing building definitely needs to be improved or torn down.

I like red the most as well. The building is not too modern but the interior space is pretty amazing...
