I know there are a few Danish posters on here. Just a question.

My mom was born there, and both grandparents. How do I go about getting a Danish Passport, in addition to my Canadian one? I've read it is one of the hardest countries in the world to get a passport for, but I'm wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

The Danes won't accept dual citizenship.
I was born there and when I became Canadian I had to renounce my Danish citizenship. I can't have a Danish passport.

You could talk to someone at the Danish Consulate on Bloor St.

Thank you. That's what I just read, which is unfortunate! I'd like to be able to get a passport to possibly work in the EU somewhere in the future.

I appreciate your help!

I do not think you have any chance of getting a danish passport.

You are right, i won't be getting one. Thanks for your prompt responses I appreciate it.

Also, where do all the Danes here in Toronto go to watch the World Cup? There aren't many of us with Danish heritage around but my gf and I are keen to find some.

Cheers

There's a bar in Liberty Village that a lot of Danes go to watch the World Cup but I don't know the name of it.
There's no reason they chose it, I think it has an Irish owner.

I'm going to my local a few blocks from me because the waitress is very nice to me.

The loosest have been Ireland and Greece, (grand-parent with nationality), however, I don't know if that is still the case.
The UK is similar. In that case, a grandparent gets you UK Ancestry Entry Clearance which is good for 5 years. From that you can work on to Indefinite Leave to Remain, and then citizenship:

At times I have been curious as to how I would prove I have a grandparent born in the UK as he is now dead and I have not had contact with my father for many years. However, I am sure it would be possible.

Sorry for the off-topic post but when I was in Havana, Cuba, I saw this absolutely gorgeous blonde with a Danish flag on her t-shirt, tight shorts and a digital camera strolling around all by herself. She was breathtaking. Scandinavian women...they are like diamonds in a treasure chest.

The Globe and Mail recommend this....

DENMARK
Brazen Head Irish Pub
165 East Liberty St.
(416) 535-8787

National intel: Denmark is small (5.5 million), and the weather is gloomier than Rob Ford during city budget meetings. But here's the thing: They are, as a recent study shows, a happy lot - in fact, the happiest country of all. Peter Moerk, the head of the Danish consulate in Toronto, cheerfully identifies as a roligan, which is the always happy Danish football supporter - a peaceful hooligan, and a symbol of the Danes' laid-back, self-deprecating national character.

The pitch: Mr. Moerk says he'll be watching the game at Brazen Head, an Irish pub that is hosting Danish fans, who'll be drinking Carlsberg and singing "Red and white, we are Danish Dynamite."

The grub: The bar won't be serving traditional Danish fare, but he says if he had his way, he'd be eating traditional open-faced sandwiches with marinated herring and drinking akvavit.

The Brazen Head plays host to red clad fans of the TFC variety, but during the World Cup the Danes are setting up camp. Lots of screens, a large patio and decent menu make this an ideal location for cheering Denmark to victory in their 4th ever world cup appearance.

why is that?
Denmark is a silly little country, that does not allow dual citizenship. A child born in Denmark of non citizens is not a danish citizen, and a child born abroad is only given danish citizenship if both parents are danish, and only if they maintain a strong connection to Denmark i.e. speaks danish, has been living in Denmark, parents are maintaining danish citizenship etc etc. I also believe the child has to apply before turning 18. Somebody applying at 30 years of age does not have a chance.

Birth Certificates, Parish Baptisimal Register entries, perhaps census records, if he immigrated to Canada immigration records etc. . .

Also the UK Ancestry Entry Clearance Visa is only good if you are from the Commonwealth, those who are U.S. Citizens only, are out of luck as to this visa catagory.

Won't an EU passport allow you to work there? I get the impression it is alot easier to get it from the UK, I have heard of lawyers arranging it for you for a price. Idenfite Leave to Remain would take too long, (ILR in the UK)
