La la land
It make me wonder if they are going to screw up the condo that they are building. After everyone moves in people will start to ask why do the walls look slanted?

Looks to me like the demolition was very poorly engineered. those 2 walls were basically freestanding with the rest of the building torn down so low. It also seems to me that the perimeter protection was very close to the demolition taking place.
To me it looked like an accident waiting to happen, especially that second collapse.
No doubt in my mind there will be charges laid ....

After screwing up the tearing down of that first wall, a while later the excavator continued on with the last wall standing and a royal screw up happens there too. Bet he wishes he'd called in sick that day.
He got a bit lucky because no car was driving by at the time. Maybe he's 23 years old and has'nt torn down too many buildings.

No, luckily nobody got killed. Maybe the equipment operator will do that on another site 6 months from now if he does'nt learn anything from this.

As it is the guy will just get a little slap on the wrist. If someone got killed the excavator operator would be facing two weeks of serious interviews from miscelaneous authorities, likely charges of some kind, and a long time worrying about how court plays out over the next year or so.

I'm glad for the worker no one got hurt.
It's amazing how many times something like this can happen in construction or demolition with nobody getting killed or injured.

The second video makes the problem clearer. They are actually using the wrong equipment for the job. They also haven't looked at how the building was built, and took it down accordingly.

This demolition company does not know what they are doing. It is one thing to bring a building down. It is another to do it safely.

Unfortunately, no professional engineers are involved. I would expect minor penalties for the activity, considering that this company could quite easily have got someone killed. Personally, I think the police should charge people with criminal negligence in cases like this. People could easily have been killed.

Parts I love in the first video:
- the cameraman veering off at the critical moment. Nice camera work buddy!
- the excavator hightailing it out of there when it happened. I wonder if he thought f he moves 20 feet away, noone will know he did it (yeah, I know he is being safe, it just looks funny)
- the ground crew guy kicking some debris with his feet to help clean up after the accident.

I think this is all further proof Vancouver is the weed capital of the world.

Low bidder got the job and showed everyone why they were low bidder.

Low bidder got the job and showed everyone why they were low bidder.
Probably the case.

That wall that was almost freestanding....when I worked in construction we would have assumed even a gust of wind could have toppled it. That doesn't even need an engineer...just someone with some experience. I'm sure any bricklayer looking at that would have shuddered.
