Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
A fellow worker purchased a 37" LCD tv from Dell, and within 2 weeks it died. He got them to send him a replacement, and guess what....they sent him a REFURBED unit. He called to complain and they said that's standard practice!!!!! The second one died also....he swears up and down that after dealing Dell for many years, he will NEVER buy from them again.

If you bought a "new" unit and they replaced it with a refurbed unit, after it was only two weeks old, would you buy from them again?

This is a standard policy with most major players.

Buy a phone from Rogers,,,if it dies in 3 weeks you get a refurbished unit.

Most companies now have a 2 week policy of replacing new with new...after that refurbished.

Apparently it's in the mice print somewhere that no one reads.

Not good biz practice but thats what we're left with.

Its the same deal with most expensive electronics - consumer or corporate. Your router, your firewall, your $100,000 SAN....

Be aware, though, that *refurbed* as a replacement should mean 'cosmetically perfect, repaired to be as new, warrantied as new'. If its scratched or dented, you're entitled to send it back again. The only way you, as a consumer, SHOULD be able to tell, is the 'REFURBISHED' sticker. If there's other physical evidence, it counts as USED, and not REFURBISHED, and you're entitled to make a stink....

depends who you talk to. I bought a Sandisk CF card with supposed lifetime warranty and it went dead on me. When I tried to exchanged it at Costco (with receipt, still within the year of purchase) they told me to bring it back to the supplier. 'tis a good thing that this happened at Costco Markham and Daymen (the importer of Sandisk) is only 2 block north of Costco.

Vogel, what is a $100,000 SAN???

As far as TV's go, stick to the main players. Panasonic/Sony/Toshiba/Hitachi and now even Samsung. You get involved with the fringe players you are asking for trouble. I was about to take the plunge on a 32" Vizio (well reviewed) and found out they had zero support in Canada even though Tiger Direct and Costco carry them. But I will admit that Costco is a stand up organization and will do their upmost to keep you as a customer.

How is Costco's pricing on CF cards? I'm always on the hunt for new cards from brand names. Also, do you know if they carry sizes larger than 1 gig? I shoot in RAW and I need 4 gig cards.

****EDIT*** checked the Costco.ca site..the card prices aren't bad at all!
Thanks!

May have to join costco!

MarkII,

cty.ca is selling Transcend 120x 2 Gb CF card with lifetime warranty for only $60. They also have the 4 Gb version, I can't remember how much though.

Any update on the second replacement unit ?

Not a fan of Dell, but their LCD TV/monitor was rated best purchase by consumers guide , as seen on CTV, about a year ago. I suppose they didn't take reliability into account.

Dell? Awful products but cheap. You get what you pay for....just my experience having had a few lemons!
