Yes a bit strange but I suspect it could be more about the relationship between Roy and Darche and/or Roy and a few key players. Roy has a strong personality which can create unwanted sparks at times. Darche didn't hire Roy and DeBoer may have been his 1st choice as a replacement for Roy, so he hired DeBoer before someone else snapped him up.
