The liqueur store employees are told not to interfere or try to stop the thieves because the may get hit with a bottle to the head. These fools do not care if their faces are caught on camera. If they are not turned into the police they suffer the shame of being seen by friends or relatives on tv or the internet.

The surname Singh sure is appearing in a lot of news stories these days. Its like multiple times a week someone with that last name is arrested or wanted or the victim of a crime.

I go to the LCBO about 5 times a year. Three times I've seen a theft occur. All post Pandemic

The name is super common in India , like Smith or Brown in Canada or Johnson in the United States., among both Hindus and Sikhs.

while I one thousand percent agree that the US and Canada need stricter immigration policies, we shouldn't lump people together based on superficial factor, like surnames.

I live in the US......if we got rid of everyone named Singh (and/or Jain).......our wait times for medical services would be as bad as yours. Half of the good doctors in Western NY are Indian.

If I had the right kind of problem I could see my primary in the AM, he would make an appointment with me for a Nuerologist the same afternoon, and I would have an MRI booked for the next day if deemed necessary. And I wouldn't have to goto to an emergency room for any of it.

Or if I did go to the ER with a head issue, they would work all night running the necessary tests (CT, MRI, Spinal tap.....) to rule out strokes, anuerysms, etc.

Or if I go to urgent care with a broken bone, they will set it and I would see an orthopedic Dr. within 48 hours.

And in each of these 3 above scenarios I am likely to cross paths with at least one medical professional named Singh

Today I was at a Christmas brunch break, as a lead in to a meeting with our client.
So social chit chat for the first hour.

One lady has had her uni age daughter just start working at LCBO in west Mississuaga as check out clerk
She has worked 4 shifts so far, and in that time there have been 3 walk offs.
And she is getting to know the alcohol addicts that make a daily appearance.

On a bit of a different track:
There is a small poster in the work lunch room and at the coffee machine.
Advertising a fundraiser raffle for a kids hockey league.
First prize is a $50 LCBO gift card per week for 2026.
I could not fathom buying that much alcohol on a regular basis.

Boy, I must be at the low end of the drinking alcohol spectrum.
I dont think I spend more than $200 on booze in a whole year, between the LCBO and on drinks at a bar.

Economic conditions of a country in a difficult situation makes people to identify a group to blame all their ills on. This is just going to get worse.

Currently the name Singh is more popular than Smith both at the University of Toronto and at Waterloo too.
This is Canada in 2025.

I was at a LCBO checking out the scotch, the next rack was where they kept the all the pocket flask of many brands. Within 4-5 minutes there must have been 5 people that whizzed into the store and snatched a bottle from the rack and went to pay at the cash register. On another occasion I was at a convenience store, while I was there people came in and bought German stomach bitters. I asked the owner why so many people were buying the product. It turns out that the product is classified as a food product and the store does not need a permit to sell it. It contains 44% alcohol and closet alcoholics buy it in denial to satisfy their addiction. The regulars that show up at LCBOs are addicts and the ones that go in to haul loads of booze out are desperate and dangerous.

They had a big problem with the bitters in the convenience stores, I thought it was banned.

Armed security coupled with the legislative will to allow criminals to be “dropped” while committing crimes is the answer to this problem. It’s that simple.

The LCBO doesn't care about these thefts. Otherwise they would put a paid police officer as a deterrent.
It's taxpayers being robbed.
Last year over the Christmas season, a police officer was at the LCBO in Yonge Eglinton Centre.
