Dateline has been runing stings in conjuction with local LE for several shows now, I saw 1 a few weeks ago where they were using chatlines, they lured the pedofiles to a house with the supposed 13 yr old girl was. All the guys had brought condoms with them, yet none of them initially admitted to being there for sex. LE met them outside & layed charges

I don't understand why the guys allow their images to be shown on TV. Since they're already being charged, why consent to allowing your image to be shown? Unless they're getting some sort of plea bargain in exchange for showing their faces?...

same thing, maybe a repeat, cops waited by the garage, girl let them to the backyard, the part with the men and boys was at the end of the show

Not sure you have a say in whether or not you allow pictures to be publicly shown with criminal charges laid

Dateline has done several of these shows, and as important as catching potential predators is, they need to branch out or change the name of their program if they plan on doing this over and over. Is there nothing else they can report on? Frontline or Nova it ain't.

personly I feel if these guys got busted everyday on T.V it might make one or two of them think about it first, some I am sure are first timers, if it would stop someone it can't hurt

I agree. My problem with shows like Dateline is that they present themselves as investigative news sources when they're not. They do shows like this over and over because they're cheap to produce and get ratings, not imo, because they care about the issues involved.

I think every one of those dick heads got what he deserved. Each guy knew the girl was only 13. Fucking creeps better stay out of my neighbor hood. Sorry but I have no pity for people who fuck around with kids. There are a lot of ways to get off without targeting 13 or 16 years kids.....male or female.
Not enough of these sick bastards are killed outright to make the others see what you might get.
Make a entire network out of a show like that and I'd be happy. Do it 24 hours a day and lets get as many of these fuck heads at once

who cares about the show and it producing these kinds on the cheap and for ratings, bottom line is these perverts end up with their face on T.V for all to see, hope it changes just one guy from doing it, that is worth letting them get their ratings, these guys are in there 30's and 40's looking to hook up with a 13 year old, put their pictures up on big billboards in their own towns, after of course they spend some time with big bubba in the local joint

Oprah had Chris Hanson(the reporter for dateline) on her show yeaterday where they showed a clip of him busting some guy who came for the bait and the very next day they caught him online again where he set up a meeting to meet 'another girl' at a local fast food restaurant where they busted him AGAIN!!!!!

BTW, she also asked the question how they get consent to air the tapes and according to him they don't need consent because it is the news.

This program makes me nervous.

Originally a group of adults calling themselves perverted justice started posing as kids on the net and entering chatrooms and inviting men over to have sex. They then would try to get the police to arrest them for the conversation online.

The police weren't that interested until Dateline got involved.

Most of the set-ups I have seen involved an alleged 15 year old girl inviting men over to her house for sex while her parents are gone. (she might be turning legal age after midnight for all they know)

Most of the men who showed up seemed slow. Some seemed like they might literally be retarded. I bet if a 20 year old asked them to come over for free sex they would have went there too.

Of course there were a number of preachers and a rabbi and some educated types who should have known better.

The police tackle everyone for some reason, even if the guy is complying, which they almost all do.

It seems very much like entrapment. These guys are being invited to come over for sex and they wouldn't have done that if some adult from perverted justice wasn't pretending to be the town lolita-nympho.

They are charged with serious crimes. Many also have pot on them which is a much more serious offense south of the border. Their lives are ruined and their families humiliated and they never actually touched anyone.

I'm not defending these guys I just don't like the tactics.

Not only that but in the episode that I saw some of the guys drove for hours to get there and brought clothes, etc. expecting to have a sleepover with a 13 yr old girl.

These guys know exactly what they are doing, yeah the tactics are questionable but if a 13 or even a 15 yr old girl offers herself up to an ADULT any person in their right mind would know to get the hell out of there, not hop in the truck with condoms and booze and drive over for a picnic, whether it is a set up or not.

That's why I wonder how much of a mind most of them have. Some had seen the program before.

I just wish they put as many resources into catching real pedophiles as they do into trying to lure people who may not have otherwise done this.

Why would they want to put effort into something when this is so much easier?
