A teenager died after apparently downing two pints of neat vodka during a drinking game.

Louis Buxton, a keen footballer, was taken to hospital in the early hours of Saturday after a drinking session with friends in Croydon, south London.

The 17-year-old, who played in midfield for Beckenham Town FC's junior team, is believed to have drunk the huge quantity of spirits as part of a drinking game.

He was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

Carl Norman, the coach of Beckenham Town FC, said Louis's teammates told him the teenager had died after downing two pints of vodka.

He said: ‘I got a message from one of the other lads over the weekend saying he had downed two pints of neat vodka and was rushed to hospital.

'Louis was a really nice guy with a great sense of humour. He was the team joker but always had time for encouraging the younger lads.

(2 pints = 32 ounces; a fresh 750ml bottle of vodka is only 25 ounces. So if anyone wonders what will happen to one if one has a few shots of vodka and then decides to open a new 750ml bottle of vodka and rapidly drink it all, now one knows...) In short, consuming 950 ml of neat vodka in one quick sitting is a bad idea. Wonder if his last words were "#Winning!"

Apparently, drinking is a bit of an issue in merrie olde England...

Hospital authorities say they have treated a 3-year-old child for alcoholism.

The Heart of England NHS Trust that runs three hospitals in central England confirmed Tuesday that a child had been treated by medical staff after being given alcohol regularly. The trust revealed the data in response to a request made under the Freedom of Information Act by a newspaper, which requested data on underage drinking.

The case highlights a new low in Britain's struggle to control a binge-drinking culture which has seen alcohol-related deaths double in the past two decades.
