Thanks for the post doinker.

The next time I feel frustrated driving in rush hour traffic,
I'll try to imagine what it felt like- 65 years ago -for those
young soldiers hearing enemy bullets ricocheting off the
front of their landing craft just before the doors opened!

Puts my freedom to drive in perspective!

I did not realize the day until last night when I watched the news. I am so proud to be a Canadian. I feel that quite often we take for granted all that we have. What the least of us has is more that most of other have. I cannot find a reason in the world why everyone in Canada should not walk down the street with a smile on there face. I do not think that anyone of us can really appreciate the ultimate sacrifice our soldiers made for us. As a person that failed to get into Royal Military College in Kingston....I regret not being able to give back a small portion of what has been given to me. I do not know what tomorrow will bring but I do know that I will face it with a smile/laugh at the tip of my tongue.

Let us not forget the troops that are now at war on our behalf. Wether you are religious or not stop for a minute or two and think about what they are doing. I had a friend go to afganistan and he returned not the same guy. It is hard mental/physical work. If you support the war or not we must support our troops!!

GOD BLESS OUR VETS!!!!!!!!!!

Their ranks are getting smaller each year, soon there will be none left from WW II Ave age is 85. Treat them with the repect, they deserve it.

Visit a local Cemetary and go to the Veterans plots.Walk amongst the markers. It will bring a tear to your eye or it SHOULD!!!!!

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As many of you likely know this Saturday marks the 65th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy by the Allied forces, and more specifically the Canadian assault on Juno beach. As Canadians I think it is important to stop and reflect at times like these so that we can remember that the freedoms we enjoy today are those that were fought for by our, now aging, veterans. Whether you have a direct connection to the military, through family or friends, please take the 3 minutes to watch this video, share it with those you know will care and most importantly try to help the young people in your lives to better understand the sacrifices that were made for us and for them.

We have a lot of things to be proud of as Canadians and our landing on Juno Beach is one of them.

The Legion is a great place to connect with veterans; especially this Saturday as most if not all Legions will have some ceremonies or lunch planned. So buy a Canadian flag for your car window at the local dollar store, attend a parade, share this message and be proud of your heritage.

Well as is typical President Sarkozy implied that most of the troops were American. The British Second Army landed 83,115 troops([61,715 of them British, and most of the rest Canadian); while the U.S. First Army landed 73,000 men. O Canada was sung completely in French - ironic considering the overwhelming majority of Canadian troops on D Day were Anglophone. And of course President Sarkozy made sure to mention the infinitesimally small Free French Forces - of course the great national myth of France is that they liberated themselves.

Hey guys, thanks for your tribute to our Canadian troops, past and present. I couldn't have said it better myself.
