Cycle snobs

I have a question for the cyclists out there, especially Cycleguy007 after reading about the type of bike her rides. My question is, are all cyclists with high end bikes snobs? The reason I ask is because I ride a decent mountain bike, it's older 17 years and I don't wear all the paraphanalia associated with cycling. I wear cut-off sweat pants, baseball cap on backwards and a tank. I usually give a wave to these upper echelon type cyclists, I'm just being friendly, but in return I get the big snub and they have seen my wave or heard my greeting. What gives with these types? Even riding in groups they give the group snub. I'm confused:confused: Is there some sort of secret handshake thingy I need to know. Maybe it's the greeting I use, could it be construed as a snub from me??? Should I wave the way the Queen does? Please let me know.

I wave, say "good morning", or "hi" or whatever to EVERY SINGLE person I encounter during my rides... if they're walking, jogging or on a bike. Young, old, male, female, black, white or otherwise... I don't discriminate- No exceptions. I don't care what they are wearing, or what they are riding... I don't always get a reply back though... Some people are just like that.

I have also been know to strike up a conversation with people traveling in the same direction. Just the other day I came up on a woman with a really sexy tattoo on the small of her back. She was traveling slower than I was, so I adjusted my speed accordingly. She soon asked me if I wanted to get by her, and I said, "not really, I am just admiring your tattoo"! She laughed and said, "yes my BF likes it too"! LOL! Then we proceeded to talk while we rode along the path for about 10 minutes.

Thanks, Cycleguy, you seem to be the exception to the many cyclists I have encountered.
No problem... I'm just a friendly guy out to enjoy my ride. I do have a higher end bike, and also the full "cycling gear" get up (LiveStrong naturally!) but that doesn't necessarily make the person a snob.

Maybe it's more of a TO thing... I'm from Cambridge and ride all over tri city area... Most people wave back or say hi or something, but I have encountered a few snobs... as well.

I'm east of T.O. and find the cycle types out here snobby. I also hate when, on a rural road, they ride 3-4 across, not letting traffic go by them. I am a friendly person by nature, but these types push my limits!

i wish motorists realized that cyclists are vehicles as well and have a right to be on the road...
could you imagine a bike going 25 - 30km/h on a sidewalk full of pedestrians, strollers, dogs?

I hope cyclists would just stay on the sidewalk.

It's very dangerous to ride your bike on the roads where cars
are driving! I hope Ontario can make this new law.

Yo Dirk,
Dude, I ride like you, except I just don't look good in a wife beater tank top so I'll be in a T shirt. Martin Goodman is my favorite summer trail. I also like Martin Goodman to Serena Gundy to the BBCC back to Martin Goodman circuit.

As for these guys who take themselves too seriously, well that's sports. I stay out of their way and they ignore me.

Yes I can but I can also imagine a cyclists being slammed by a car! possible death
Bicycles belong on the road, not on the sidewalk. That is the law. Thankfully, many cities are including bike lanes on many streets these days. Everyone including cyclists and motor vehicle operators, just need to be more aware of each other. That's all.

Having said this, this is PRECISELY why I choose to ride MOSTLY on cycling/ hiking trails.

Don't tell him Lisa...he won't approve...LOL
Actually, I approve of every bicycle. But I do have my preferences for my own use. ;)

that's why i only offroad on the trails, and road ride in the country... city riding is NOT for this guy... not ever since i saw my buddy in front of me almost lose his head to the side-view mirror of a delivery truck!

You think cyclists can be rude to each other? You should see how they treat drivers. Like we're the enemy. They challenge driversfor lane space at their own peril. And whine like victims when they get hurt. This ofcourse does not apply to most Toronto cyclists who are very safety concious and courteous.
