It is probably the sheer mass of the batteries.
Most snow tires sort of cut the snow but also float over the crunched snow a bit too.

A heavy vehicle will have the tires cut right to pavement, which can be slippier than the snow, since the pressure can turn the snow to water.

It is more likely that the low profile rims might make it hard to make a good snow tire that does not cut electric range too much.

Besides those vehicles looking like an ugly tin box on wheels, I'd blame the driver for not knowing how to drive in winter conditions.

Winter tires don't really float on the snow. They have lots of siping on them, which fill up with snow. The snow on snow contact allows for more grip, and also allows water to be forced away from the tires. Nothing to do with mass really. Even the lightest cars today still weigh several thousand pounds. It is all about grip and traction.

By your logic an ugly vehicle means the driver doesn’t know how to drive in winter?
Please explain that to me.

No that's not what I said. I said those vehicles look like ugly tin boxes on wheels - they are IMO - but I blamed the driver for not knowing how to drive in winter conditions. Nothing more than that.

How can you judge his winter driving skills from that short video?
