Thise is a question i asked 10 people today at a bar and knowone could answer. While watching curling I was curious do women use lighter rocks than the men. Those rocks dont look all that heavy to begin with, they just slide. Sorry if thise a dumb question but i want to find out.

Thanxxx

Nope,
No break in weight for the ladies. The trick here is that there is no lifting of the rocks. Actually most of the energy departed to the rock comes from the legs when pushing out of the hack ( the foot hold thingy the curler starts the delivery from)

Curling for Dummies. That's what I need. Been watching for 25 years and still do not know the rules entirely. Help.

PS- Shot rock. Love saying that.

Except for the "Little Rocks" program, all curing is done with a granite rock weighing between 42 and 44 pounds (including the handle and hardware). Little Rocks are for kids aged 7 to 12. They come in two physical sizes (most are smaller than the real rocks but other are the same size) and weight about 15 pounds.

As previously stated, the "power" to deliver the rock is really from the pushing out of the hack. Years ago, the standard delivery was to actually pick it up in a swinging motion backward and then fling it forward. That style has been replaced to the "no lift" method that you see now. The "no lift" is more accurate and easier on the back. It is easier to deliver the rock through the house rather than a guard in my opinion (easier to throw it harder than to throw it with enough weight to stop 6 feet in front of the house).

The main difference between men's and women's curling is the style of play. With men's, you will see more aggressive strategies (double take-outs, heavy weight shots, etc.). The ladies play a milder form of the game.

I have played since 1978 in high school. My inlaws are in their mid-80's and they still play.

never been a huge fan of the game itself, although something intriguing about a game where you get women yelling "harder, harder, harder".

Than you very much for the info guys. Now if only I could learn the rules I would be happy. Maybe I will just buy the Curling for dummies book.

If you watch some of the matches on TV if you listen closely you may hear the Skip yell ( "Hurry, hurry ...) when requesting a more vigorous brushing of the surface. Perhaps this is to discourage the more randy of us from picking up unwanted subliminal messages while on the rink!
