Hey guys, planning on taking a trip in the next few weeks and can't really decide between Cuba and DR. Are picking up women in Cuba worth the legal troubles or can you get a similar choice in the Dominican Republic? Thanks for any help.

The food in Cuba is only bad at the resorts. Go out into the city. I just came back and had delicious meals every night. Always in the company of a beautiful girl!eldoguy said:

Bland because...
Any and all food at most Caribbean resorts will always be bland because it is prepared as the lowest common denominator. These resorts have people from ALL over the world visiting them that have completely different taste in cuisine. What someone from Germany might think is spicy, someone from Chile might think is sweet. So that is why the food is so bland and even uninteresting in its choices. The real fun and joy is to go out into the city or town closest to the resort. Especially if your resort is in a place like Havana or Santo Domingo, there is no excuse. You'll experience new people, exciting surroundings and find places that you'll never forget in terms of great food. Latin/Caribbean food is delicious and to enjoy it in its own ambiance is the best scenario. All at prices that are ridiculously low.

When Cuba allows massage parlours, strip clubs/whorehouses, beer bars, casinos, and they stop arresting women for being with a tourist, I would think about going back again.
IMHO, the Dominican Republic is way better, and the food is great.

There are 2 big problems with Cuba:
1) escorts are pricier than they should be; between girl + taxi + casa particular + drinks, etc. expect to pay at least USD100 to 150 per night
2) forget about a nice room with air conditioner, a typical Motel 6 room will look like the Marriot compared to the "casa particulares" (private homes used as informal hotels) you will use to finish the deal. There might be ways (bribe) of getting the girl in your room (I never tried), but keep in mind that it won't be cheap.

I just came back and I've been a ton of times. I've never paid more than $25.00 a night for an apartment. A real apartment with everything that made it comfortable, nice and accommodating. A living room, great balcony, queen size bed, A/C and a perfect working bathroom. Great view, everything I need in a neighborhood and privacy.
If you're looking for pro's then yeah, you're going to dish out bigger bucks. I have always preferred the company of non-pros. The girls I meet are so sweet and feminine that they would never want to be confused for 'jineteras' (akin to a gypsy/streetwalker). They would be ashamed to ask for any $. I put a donation in the little gift bag I give them because I am aware of their tough conditions. This saves face on their behalf and makes it all more subtle. It is nowhere near the amount you are mentioning. It is still more than they would make at a regular Cuban job in a month.
As far as drinks go, I always invite the girls to have dinner with me, so dinner and drinks is all part of the night. For all the food I can eat, rum and beer I can drink, I've never spent more than $30.00 for dinner. At great places with live music, dancing and cool ambiance. Being in the area of "Old or Central Havana", I can always walk back to my place or at the most, spend $2.00 or $3.00 on cab fare.
You can now bring a guest to your room so long as they are registered properly and you add $60.00 to that night's hotel rate. It's not worth it seeing that the other options are so much better.
I saw the figure mentioned of $150.00 for the night! I don't know how on earth that happened?!?!? All I can say is: I'm so sorry.

Agree with Bridgman. Stay at a casa, $25 per night is an average price.

I personally travel to the DR at least twice a year! I have been to local strip clubs and was impressed by what I aw.....

Well, my trip was to an all inclusive resort in Varadero, I just stayed one night in Habana, and booked the "casa particular" after getting the girl, maybe at 2.00 am, so the price was more than a regular $25.
I went to "casa de la musica" which is a "pro" and expensive place, but with really beautiful women
I guess traveling to Habana only, and looking for non-pros, you might pay a lot less. But the problem is, other than "hobbying" or drinking in a bar, what else can you do in Havana? you can do all the good "touristic city tours" in a day or 2.
For that particular trip, "hobbying" was just something additional I wanted to do while I was enjoying the all-inclusive resort, not the reason of the trip. And hobbying in a resort is pretty much impossible.

Throw in the exchange rate of 0.7 and yep, at least C$150 for a night of fun. But C$150 will not get you anywhere as far in Toronto, esp with the girl of your dreams.
