Two very different attitudes
It's interesting how two countries coming from basically the same background (other than Québec) can arrive at such different places regarding this.
The founding ‘Religious dissenter - objection to the decadence of society’ tradition of large segments of the founding waves of immigration to the U.S. lives on in the U.S. despite later and much larger waves of immigration. However, despite the fact that UEL’s were from this background and the subsequent waves of immigration to Canada were if anything more “conservative” than to the U.S. Canada has instead made some profound changes over the past 60 years - "Toronto the good" is long gone. My memory from the period is not good but presumably the vast majority of this change occurred from the mid-sixties on.
