From Durham Regional Police website (emphasis added):

A four-day enforcement campaign in Oshawa has resulted in dozens of charges against sex trade workers and their would-be customers.

On Tuesday May 8th, 2007, members of 17 Division (Oshawa) Community Resource Unit initiated Project Indiana that targeted street level prostitution in the City of Oshawa as a result of numerous complaints from members of the community.

Total number of arrests …………………… 30
(21 prostitutes and 9 sex-trade consumers - “johns”)
Total number of charges ……………… 53
(Communicating for the Purpose of Prostitution, Breaching Court Orders, and Possession of Crack Cocaine)

The oldest female sex trade worker arrested was 64-years-old  and the youngest had just turned 18 years old. A knife and a small quantity of crack cocaine were seized during the project.

The Durham Regional Police strongly believes that prostitution is not a victimless crime and will continue to strengthen partnerships within the community to address this issue.

Similar enforcement campaigns will be conducted in the near future.

I realize this was street prostitution and diff from escorts et al, however the last sentance has got me a little worried---"similar" could mean targetting escorts. Not sure if this will stop my hobbying, but after seeing this today I changed my mind about booking an appointment this evening.

What's everyone's take on this?

I wouldn't get too worked up. The D R's do this every spring. Escorts aren't illegal.

incalls are classed as brothels. An outcall is based on you spending time with a girl at your private residence or hotel and anything that happens is between two or more consenting adults.

Remember them picking up a 13 year old a few months back?

Even further back they put up signs on Albert street to scare away the SWs so I'd have to say that the residents of Oshawa don't take kindly to the SW scene. With a reasonable organized in-call situation in Oshawa, the SW is not really needed.

Ottawa used to have a street that was "red light" and there were a few SW on each corner. I suppose it allowed someone to decide based on looks but we have terb and people who take on for the team and report it in Oshawa so I think that gives a prospective client more information anyway. For example you know who not to visit around feeding time ... (hers or her cats)

More than 70% of SWs have either hepatitis C or Aids. Who wants that risk?
Not for me thank you.

Off the top of his head. If that was true it would be considered an epidemic and The Ministry of Health along with LE would do a hell of a lot more than they are now to stop street hookers.

70% might have some form of substance addiction, I'd buy that statistic.

I believe if you go on Simcoe, just north of the 401 there is a street that runs straight north and south called Celina, you can find your street meat there. Look for anything twitching in the cold, good bet five bucks and pack of smokes will get'r done.

Visiting an Escort is not illegal

The law states that communicating for the purpose of soliciting prostitution in a public place is illegal as is having sex in a public place. Also, keeping a place or dwelling for the purpose of engaging in or promoting prostitution - i.e. keeping a bawdy house as in a pimp managing multiple girls, is also illegal. However, visiting an escort who advertises her time and a donation, who conducts her business in a private setting and isn't going out in public is not breaking the law.

Depends on how you look at it

If I visit a girl for an incall it is considered illegal. But if the girl was to say she had called me for an outcall to her place would that not make it legal? After all why are we not stereotyping by saying that only women are SP's. Sounds discriminatory to me.
