Crackdown on car mods

I'm carrying this from another thread. I am very happy to hear that there is supposedly a crackdown on car mods. Police should pull over all people with stupid shit on their cars and give them a public flogging. Especially those dumb-asses mufflers with the spinners inside that make a 1.5 litre engine scream like hell. No they're not cool!
Also as for street racing punks..they are the most dangerous fucking idiots in this city, and I'd much rather than police leave drug users (not pushers), and sex workers alone and get people off the street who are dangerous to others. (Oh and when are these Honda Civic driving jerks going to realize that a 4' towel drying rack on the backs of their car looks STUPID!). That's all I'm finished now.

Funny post

HAHA.. I have to admit, I shake my head and laugh when I see a tricked out Civic with a cuctom exhaust to make the gerbil powered engine sound cool.

There is no replacement for displacement! Buy yourself some horsepower, a cold air intake, a free flow exhaust and THEN rev your engine next to me at the light. I'll still laugh, but at least you'll have your dignity.

I mean really... how "ghetto" can you be in a low-riding, lime green, Civic hatchback? LOL

Other thread

That was me that made the comment in the other thread, and it was made to reflect how stupidly the police make decisions on who, when, where and what.

My car is neither a street racer nor a modified car. It has no modifications to it at all, other then the blue lights on the wiper blades that my 6 year old son thought was cool and wanted me to put them on. Just because I drive a Toyota doesn't mean I participate in Street racing or any illegal activity.

As for the blue lights, or any physical alterations (meaning alterations that are cosmetic only) that have no adverse affects on the performance of my car or affect any other driver (other then bruising someone's ego because I may prefer my car to look a certain way that isnt the same as someone else's preference) I think the Police have better things to be doing with their time.

Honestly I don't like the loud sounding after market mufflers myself, and so long as they are within the boundries of sound noise, I won't insult someone for making that modification to their car, its their car and their creative vision going into it. If you can't respect other peoples right to individuality and freedom to express their creative then you need to reflect upon yourself.

Virtually all mods SUCK!

- Mufflers that don't muffel
- Florescent lights under the undercarraige
- Outrageously coloured cars (florescent's especially)
- Gold Chain-linked License Plate Protectors (they'll always also have that Gold Crown airfreshener in the back window)
- Coloured Windshield Wipers
- 1000W stereo systems that fill the entire trunk that could be heard in Manitoba when blasted fully.
- Low riders and High Riders (usually trucks)

Almost all mods are done to cars that don't have any character to them without it - that's what I hate the most.

Has anyone seen that stupid coloured Volkswagen Golf around (all separate panels of the car are coloured differently - Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple)?

And yes, get these A##holes off the street. Somebody with money should find some land and built a place for them to race if they want. But not around me nor anywhere where there are children or elderly people.

I am definitely not saying that it was cool or anything, I thought it looked completely stupid but.....

You do know those golfs came from the factory like that right?

Brilliant Idea from Volkswagon I guess.

No I honestly didn't know they come from the factory like that. Regardless, who in their right mind would propose something like that and worse yet who would buy one. Looks like a box of those fruit flavoured chicklets.

My suggestion for them would be not to let the colour blind assemblers work on the body.

most performance enthusiasts dont race and rev on the streets. They go to the track or other places which dont put the lives of innocent ppl at risk. What you guys see (the civics and whatnot) is just a SMALL percentage of what is out there.

those people you see, are in fact, newbs that dont know anything except that stickers make your car go fast. Most people in this scene tune the suspenstion, tweak the engine, upgrade the brake system and do other things...not just chop off the stock muffler and add a coffee can at the end to make some fart sounds.

I dunno, having so many friends with tricked out rides (veterans in this game) and myself getting serious about my own personal car, it just gets me pissed off when I see the little 16yo driving his Civic (which is in his parents name) like its the fastest thing on the planet...then when you ask him what he has under the hood...its nothing...please....its people like that who ruin the whole scene...

LoL...dude...those hood lights are called nipple lights :)

Uzo, finally someone posts who knows what there talking about. Others posting here are just like the rest of the general public and confuse CAR ENTHUSIATS with street racers. I agree that street racing should be stopped esp people revving up at every light even during busy traffic times (not that its ok at 4am either). But for the police to stop all this, should it come at the continuous harassment of all car enthusiasts?

I find it interesting from reading the odd car related post that comes up here every once in a while that happens to have some relation to street racing or something, there’s always a few idiots that seem to think that all this whole problem would be solved by getting these "souped up" imports off the streets. Those people so dam ignorant, there’s no hope for them, but it sucks that people read these things and then side with them. Its sad because even though there maybe a large amount of riced out imports out there, just look at the statistics. What is it, like 16 street racing related deaths in the past 4 years and the majority of the vehicles involved were domestic vehicles. I'm not saying that only domestics street race though! Look at one of the most recent deaths, where that stupid 16 year old in daddy’s intrepid racing a firebird(i think) in missasauga. No loud exhaust, no stickers, no crazy aluminium wing on the back, no bling bling rims, etc....

iguana,
You esp. saying police should pull over anyone with a loud exhaust on there 1.5L car. (Again, prob. referring to the D series civic engine most likely that was 1.5L) What a fucking idiot you are. You said leave drug users alone, last I checked drug usage was against the law. A drug user is not dangerous to others? What the hell is wrong with you? Have you ever read the HTA? I assume you haven't, but anyways there is no reference in there to the decibel level of a vehicles exhaust system. Now, I'm not a fan of loud exhaust systems, but you cant just say pull over all those 1.5L cars with loud ass exhausts, have you ever been up close to a 5.0 mustang with a straight through, there isn’t many exhausts made for 1.5L cars that produce that amount of sound. You would rather police give a public flogging to someone with a 4’ (big exaggeration on your part here) aluminium wing on there car, but leave a crack addict (who MAY be resorting to other crimes to pay for his addiction) alone, your dumber than I thought.

MuffinMuncher,
How do you know there is a gerbil powered engine under the hood. You said no replacement for displacement, have you ever been to St. Thomas or Toronto Motorsports Park (Cayuga) and see your so called "displacement" in an actual race. I'm not saying "gerbil power" is the be all and end all, but just have an open mind and realize displacement is not the be all and end all also.

Shiek,
I don't agree with you about the exhaust part, but I would hope the cop threw the book at him for driving recklessly on city streets like that.

TravellingGuy,
Personally I despise nipple lights on any car, but like I said above, there not against the law (blue and non flashing) so who am I or anyone else to judge you. Word of advice though, cops (well mostly york, peel and stay the hell out of durham) hate them and most likely will ticket you for them if your ever driving in the wrong area at the wrong time. If this ever happens fight the ticket and it will be thrown out since its not illegal.

Sorry for the long post :)

ps.Uzo, what kinda car you got?

Before you get your knickers twisted, let me clarify my thought.

I was referring to the "wannabe's"... the poor schmucks who take an underpowered car and dress it up with neon, blinking wipers and loud exhaust systems, without any attention to actual performance.

I have great respect for an enthusiast who can take a stock Civic and really tune it... CAIS, free flow exhaust, chipped engine, throttle body modifications... to squeeze another 50 HP and 20 lbs of torque out of his ride.

If you take the time and money to do that, you can paint it pink and put Christmas lights on it and still get some respect.

way out in left field
Well now, isn't this an interesting thread?

To be perfectly frank (is there such a person as a perfect frank???) stock vehicle modifications have been around since the 50's (and probably before) and now has grown to the import market. Used to be that the only vehicles done up were from detroit but with the increase in the cost of fuel, the rice burners are having their time in the sun.

Used to be that displacement was the way to go, now you can get the same results with about 50,000 beaver bucks and a platinum master card. Its now finesse over brute strength. One thing the rice burners have going for them now is that they can actually turn a corner at speed (with the right rubber and suspension I might add). The muscle cars of the 50s, 60s and 70s could turn, but at anything over 100K you'd most likely peel the pizza cutter front tires off the rims.

As in previous times, some went all out under the body skin and produced a SUPER fast vehicle. Some went all out on the outside and left the guts factory. To each his own I say. As in the past, some people have NO taste and produce the most gawd aweful looking vehicles, some produce a work of art.....slick to the nines.....but that is what living in a free country is all about. One has the right to do whatever he (or she) wants to their ride.

My advice? next time you see a car that is in serious need of a reality check. Roll down your window, point at him, and LAUGH your muther effin ass off at him. Maybe he will get the point. This reminds me of the losers in the 70s who used to go to Crappy Tire (Canadian tire) and get those red flame decals and stick em on BACKWARDS on the side of their LTDs. I used to laugh at them too....

Street racing? I should think that we would all be used to it by now. Its been around ever since the first gasoline powered car in the 1800's. I saw on PBS where the first street race was run when Joe whuts his name said his car was faster n JoeBob's horse. They ran it down mainstreet in BF Iowa or somewhere around 1890. (the horse won). I'm not condoning it in any sense of the imagination, but you're never going to stop it. As long as there is more than one vehicle on the road sooner or later they are going to race.

Let's not forget that your average 16,18 year old street racer is really most likely a much better driver than the than the average licenced driver out there today. I mean these kids take pride in their cars and driving. Have you been around Pacific Mall on a Sunday afternoon lately? Talk about SCARY.

Astroboy...aahhh...the sweet, distinctive sound of a 5 liter mustang...the memories of my 88 "trunk" with the 351 "crate motor" from Ford. It would run high 11s all day long on the motor and low 11s on the juice...totally streetable...had a 3'' custom exhaust...it was loud when I really put my foot into it. No nipple bulbs for me thanks, my pride and joy was as subtle as could be except of course the fully tubbed rear end and the 14 inch wide tires. I never actually street raced it. Always walked softly because I was carrying a big stick. Used to get pulled over quite a bit mostly because the cops admired the car. Nowadays, after owning a variety of cars (best of which was my Lexus LS400) I take pride in my Echo because it's so good on gas and also because the sole purpose of owning a car has become getting from point A to B for me. But the kid in me still wants that 63-65 2 door Falcon. (My favourite muscle car is the Thunderbolt)

I know I've totally gone off topic here but where are the street racing hot spots nowadays? Is Milley's on steeles still happening? How about the Country Style in Woodbridge? It would be interesting to find out what everybody else has and is driving now.

Sargeant StiffCock,

Milley's kinda died down when I was getting into the scene, basically thats when cops totally cleared it out. People still chill there but not what it was like back in its hey day.

As for new spots, that something that would never get posted on a public board :)

tboy,

I totally agree with you that light to light spontaneous street racing will never be stopped. I dunno what I would do if I ever get beat by a horse!

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Call them rice burners all you want. I've been driving Honda's(3 out of 4 made in Alliston) for over twenty years, and wouldn't trade them for a Cavalier, Neon,or Focus. Bash the japs all you want, try and tell me your domestic is more reliable, better quality, and more bang for your buck. Think again.
Talk to any good mechanic, he would rather work on a japanese car than a domestic one.
The guys that drop their suspension really make me laugh, have you seen the way the tires bow out at the bottom. Talk about uneven tire wear. Also the big two foot high, really fake spoilers are really cheesy.

What does neon, blinking wipers or loud exhaust have to do with performance? They are cosmetic, same with a paint job. There are people who are into performance, there are people who are into cosmetics, there are people who enjoy cars in different ways. We are all invidiuals and we each are entitled to our own creative freedom and expression. Perhaps I want a car thats stupidly painted, thats my right, you can laugh all you want, but to seriously try and hinder my rights (ie: Police making me disconnect them or face a $100 fine) seems quite unfair. I dont care about performance, I've never had an interest in it, but that doesnt mean I don't want my car to look the way I want it to, for myself, not for you, not for anyone else, for me.

I applaud VW for their line of unusually painted cars, not because I like them or want one, but because they are interested in opening up people's creative visions in respect to the vehicles they drive. I'm not going to slam someone for their personal preferences, even if they differ from my own. I respect everyone's right to their individuality, including what cars they drive, and I would not want to force us all to be identical.
