The electronic filing deadline has always been after April 30, usually May 2 or 3. They don't tell you this though, unless you are a practitioner. Note that if you have HST due on April 30 there is no extension of deadline so make sure to get it filed. CRA doesn't fuck around when it comes to custodial funds.

Just got mine back from the accountant too and not going to delay filling since they owe me this year.

Anyone who owes should mail in a paper return with a paper cheque, post marked may 5, to hang on to the cash a little longer.

Sage advice indeed. What with interest rates being upwards of 1% per year, on $10,000.00 that would net about $1,32 over the five days! :thumb:

Hmm, I wonder if they accidentally posted the same info as last year, because it was also May 5th then and I got it done just in time. Good to know. :)

They extended the deadline last year because of a problem with the website (I recall it was hacked?) Anyway, it seems they can't get their s**t together but screw me if I'm owing and late.

I have found the CRA to generally be disorganized and they do make mistakes. So pay close attention to all statements, etc. Twice on the phone, I got the, "Oh sorry ma'am, you're right."

Here's CRA's official announcement on their website.

Many pundits were saying, okay to file by May 5th but you must still pay by April 30th. However, if one reads this newsflash, it says you can file by midnight May 5th, 2015 and not incur INTEREST and penalties. So seems like what Fuji just said above.

@ MissCroft: Yes, it was the Heartbleed software bug that forced an extension last year. And yes, CRA makes mistakes or are less than precise when glitches are involved or when they encounter a curve ball - the proverbial wrench (in my case, they failed to properly or completely communicate an issue). Sometimes though, they find errors in your favour (e.g. missed disability tax credit that was previously applied for and accepted).

Too bad somebody there didn't accidentally say every Canadian was getting back an additional $5,000 this year

Harper would win the election by a landslide. Could potentially happen down the road if we find an eco-friendly way to drill for oil in the Yukon/North West Territories.

Far-fetched though.
