So I bought some supplements that I thought were real on ebay. I had some real stuff I had left that I bought from a health food store. I compared the ebay stuff and the health food store and they are definitely fake. So I bought a few months supply and it was quite a bit, paid with paypal too.

Has anybody experience buying something that was fake on ebay? I want to file a report but something tells me that its a he said , she said kind of a scenario. Could I win this battle?

I have been selling items on ebay for the past 5 years. First, before filing any dispute make sure it is a fake. Contact the manufacturer and send them a photo. Then before you take any action, contact the seller and explain that you believe the item is a counterfeit and you would like to return it for a full refund. If the seller refuses or does not respond within a day or two, then proceed with action.

You can file a SIGNIFICANT NOT AS DESCRIBED dispute in Paypal within 45 days within payment. If you provide reasonable evidence that the item is fake (i.e. a picture of the fake beside a picture of the real one) then Paypal will most likely rule in your favour and you will get a full refund ( you will have to ship it back to the seller and pay for shipping).

But what I would do recommend you do is file a not as described case through ebay (within 45 days of purchase date) because ebay gives you buyer protection and ebay will most likely rule in your favour. Again, you will have to ship it back for a refund and pay for the shipping. When you file a dispute through ebay, the amount paid to the seller will be placed on hold in his Paypal account.

Good luck!

I know a guy who works full time in a department that does nothing but post returned items from a major electronics retailer on EBay. Just something to keep in mind.

Does the seller have a near perfect feedback, if so they are more likely to just refund you the money to preserve it and keep fooling the other people who don't notice.

And what's happened if the health store sold a fake one?:) Everything is possible these days.Health supplements business is the place for the biggest con artists of the world. 7 to 10 items are useless or just placebo.

I hate to perpetuate a stereotype, but I always thought it was a horrible place to buy things. If I can't find something anywhere other than eBay I don't buy it. I've heard too many stories. I don't even shop at places with a bad return policy. My brother has received broken items a friend of mine ordered a zebra painting or statue and received a small box with a photo of a zebra out of national geographic. This was years ago though at least a decade ago.

Got my Patek Philippe on eBay for a hundred bucks!!! Real deal baby!!

Seriously, eBay is just like anywhere else where people are trying to make money. There will be some legitimate items and there will be counterfeit items. Fact of the matter is that no one is going to sell something to you at a loss (maybe rarely, if you're really lucky). That just doesn't make any business sense. Some legitimate sellers can purchase authentic items in bulk and give a slight discount compared to a retail store because they have a low overhead and still make money. On the other hand, if the item is priced really low then I would suspect a counterfeit. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. The problem arises when a counterfeit item is reasonably priced. Do your research. Has the seller sold many of that item? Were the buyers happy with their purchase?... If in doubt, it's probably safer to assume it's counterfeit.

As for medications, supplements, etc., I personally wouldn't purchase any anywhere on the internet. Just can't be sure what's in them (unless you have access to a lab you can test them in).

I love Ebay and use it all the time. If you use common sense and learn the ways to use the site to your advantage you can save a ton. Have never had a single complaint on over 1,000 purchases.

That said, I haven't/wouldn't buy any food or supplements on Ebay.
