What a suck

From tsn.ca

4/15/2003

It looks as though Shayne Corson's days as a Toronto Maple Leaf may be over.

Sources told TSN that Corson, who was a healthy scratch last night for Game 3 against Philadelphia, met with Head Coach and General Manager Pat Quinn yesterday and a decision was reached during that meeting that Corson would no longer play or practice with the club. Corson was not at Leaf practice today.

A Maple Leafs spokespersnon told TSN that Corson "resigned".

Whether that decision remains final remains to be seen. Corson is clearly unhappy with his diminished role on the Maple Leafs this season. Corson's contract expires at the end of this season, but there is a club option.

It's believed, however, that the Maple Leafs are not interested in exercising that option.

Can you believe

this is the same Corson that was on the 1998 Olympic team? All the best to him.

Stumpy is with the Ducks and Lumpy says WTF?

Here's hoping there's room in Corson bus to take Lumme and Housley with him but guess we cant have it all.

chubbs: were we watching the same game last night ... no comparison ... tucker can still skate and play a two way game while corson is slow as molasses and has forgotten what the red light looks like.

I do think Corson has made a mistake by leaving the team, but who knows what is going through his head. If I was creating the line-up, Corson would be in over Hoglund and Belak right off the bat.

Kathleen, I agree with you, what the heck is wrong with Pat Quinn??? He never has a line combination stay the same, so how do the players gel with one another and be comfortable?

If the Leafs don't make the Stanley Cup Final, I think its time to fire Pat Quinn from both the Coach and GM jobs. He had a small skilled team back in 99, but lost to Buffalo and he now has the bigger team he wanted but they can't play defence and live in the penalty box. Quinn's time is up!

The Leafs enjoyed their longest winning streak during Corson's absence. During the first part of the season, Corson's ice time was the third highest on the team, yet his offensive production was insignificant.
I'm glad Robert is back in the dressing room, his no nonsense leadership is a welcome relief--the team comes first--if you're gonna sulk and and feel sorry about yourself, you don't belong on the team.

totally inexcusable

Walking away is totally inexcusable. It will make Corson seriously "damaged goods"......I know I wouldnt want a player with that attitude on my team.

Agreed Quinn should go. Too bad it wasn't done last year. The playoffs for the Leafs are like one of those bad dreams you have over and over again. First you get in a cold sweat watching giveaways in the defensive end, then goosebumps watching rinkwide passes in front of their own net, finally you lurch awake as another Leaf heads to the box for a stupid penalty. Quinn glowers from the bench but never changes that style.

Flooey!

Corson & Roberts have had a bad history over the years that goes back to their minor hockey days. It's no secret that they don't like each other.

Quinn has to give up one of the two jobs. One man can't effectively do both. Quinn has more wins then any coach who has never won the cup.

Apparently Corson has some family issues he is dealing with. It was reported(sorry, can't remember where)that he felt he would be a distraction to the team and if he wasn't playing, it might be better for the team if he wasn't around. I don't thinik it was a selfish decision based on playing time. There really seems to be more to it than that. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a Leafs fan so go on bashing him if you like. I just thought I would post what I read. Agan, I wish I could remember where I read it!!

Corson is truly pathetic! his career is over!

being a pro athelete making that kind of money he should act in a professional manner.
take Housley for example. playing 1 shift in Game 3 .when they showed him sitting on the bench I actually felt sorry for him even though he's better on the bench. At least he accepts his situation and supports the team.
Shane has proven he only thinks of himself.
Big Baby
I'll never forget that night at the Inn on the Bay in Muskoka when his drunken loud mouth buddy picked a fight with my friend and got his ass kicked and Shayne coward. did'nt even come to his friends defense.
that says it all to me!

Exactly, Corson has to accept that his best years are behind him, and the way the playoffs go, especially for the Leafs, someone will get injured soon and he would be called on to play more. I do not have a single ounce of sympathy for him, not a single one of us would have a problem getting paid $2.5 or 3 million per year to sit in the press box and watch the game. His job and responsiblity as a professional athlete is to be ready to play when he is needed.

I was at the game on Monday, and a dull "oh no" came from our section when Housley came onto the ice for that one shift on the power play. Everyone was also on pins and needles whenever the puck went to him, and it was almost humourous when he lost the puck at the blueline and almost got windburn from the Flyer who flew by him with the puck.

Reichel was the best Leaf on the ice, I never thought I would say that in my lifetime. He was taking punishment in front of the net, he was forechecking tenaciously, skating his ass off, and even hitting. He was playing like McCauley was last year. And what's going on with Nolan? He's more invisible that Hoglund!

Reichel seems to turn his play up a few notches during the playoffs every year.
Maybe he read the post about him before the game....

If Corson had personal problems he should have kept his retirement plans under wraps and had the team make up a fake injury report or something. His actions showed me that he is not a team player and the Leafs are better off without him in the line-up.

Corson's best years are way behind him....

It's no secret that he is not well liked (with the exception of Tucker) in the dressing room. CFRB reported that his relationship with Gary Roberts could be compaired to Bush and Hussien. Add to this his injuries and personal problems and it obvious this problem was overdue. What is truely pathetic is the way he handled this. Don't let the door hit you on your way out Shayne...

Just because you can skate doesn't mean you should be allowed on the ice. My God there are kids on the rock out east that could play more productively!

.. way way behind him

Can't believe Corson actually had a 50 goal season. Anyone who doesn't know the meaning of hustle should not be in the playoffs.

Shane does have health issues and has had for years. At 36, and with probably his best years behind him, having to face several times listed as a healthy scratch, and perhaps thinking more a lot more lately of his father Paul who died far to young. I think he's been doing a lot of soul searching these past few days and decided there is more to life than hockey. Perhaps his resignation could have been handled a little better but after the media hipe is over in the long run I think he did what he did, how he did, for the team.
