has anyone seen those new cordless phones made by seimens? they have no external antenna and use 'aa' batteries. my question is are these an improvement on the previous type that use the battery with the wire you plug into the phone?

i'm in the market for a cordless, and i don't want to get a crap one.

I don't know about Siemens but I have one of the new 2.4 Ghz phones from Panasonic. I like it. Good, clear reception. If you get one go 2.4 Ghz.

Try VTECH, I have 3 of them and never had a problem. They now have a 5.8mHZ. I like the convenience of adding up to 3 extra handsets, just plug them in anywhere in the house. They share the same base. Staples- Business Depot has decent prices.

I have a cordless phone and it started out great. Now 3 or so years later it's clarity sucks. This isn't the first time I have witnessed this phenomenon in a cordless phone.

Do they degrade over time or something? I have Sanyo now and we had a Panasonic before.

I've been told the clarity on the 5.8(VT5831) is not as good as the 2.4(VT2431). We sell them at work, the 5.8 has just come out but hasn't sold much yet.

panasonic

In my experience the Panasonic 2.4ghz is the best phone on the market. If you are buying one make sure it is 2.4 ghz DSS ( Digital Spread Spectrum) The DSS gives you extreme range and privacy. The batteries in the Siemens phones are essentially just AA rechargable batteries so are less expensive to replace but don't last as long on a charge. I'd go with a panasonic and a multlible handset unit you wont go wrong.

I have one...

Gigaset 4010 if that's the one you mean.

Good reception and all, my only complaint is accessing the caller ID to delete, and scroll through to see who called is a pain in the ass.

I like my vista 350 for that. one button with up and down arrows.

i didn't get anything yet. the panasonic phones are around $140 at best buy, but i know a guy who picked one up for $120 on yonge st. at one of those 'indie' electronics stores when he paid cash. so i think that's what i might do.
