He’s a convicted sex offender, one of America’s Most Wanted, and he may be in Toronto.
Police have issued a public safety alert about Michael Dale Benson, who escaped from a treatment centre in Minnesota, and authorities have reason to believe he’s in the GTA.
The 42-year-old has been convicted of violent sexual offences and served more than 13 years at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center in St. Peter, Minn., but on April 15 he managed to break free.
He reportedly squeezed through a space in a window, as did three other men, by sawing off one of the security bars that covered the opening. Police managed to capture all of the escapees except Benson.
According to American authorities, he was convicted of breaking into a woman’s house, sexually assaulting her and threatening to kill her. He allegedly told police there are more victims, including four rapes in California and Colorado.
He's described as:
* Native American
* Approximately 5’11” and 170lbs
* He has dark hair, brown eyes and a slender build
* Occasionally wears glasses and may have shaved his head
Police say he has tattoos, including a dagger on one of his hands or forearm and an eagle and peace symbol on a shoulder.
He also goes by the names Chris Benson, Michael Blue and Michael Brown.
