What is the best way to convert: art, bitmap, etc., picture files to jpeg?
Any good free programs or shareware programs out there for this?

Never did this before.

Thanks for the help.
Will have to give it a try.

Which one is easiest to use?

Sheik,
Never thought of using paint. Thanks.
That was easy, just converted a bitmap pic to jpeg no problem.

An old .art pic is still proving difficult to open or convert.
This .art pic is attached to IE somehow. It opened OK with windows 98 but since switching to XP it won't open anymore.
Still working on it.......

MS Security Bulletin
Due to "A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way AOL ART images are handled", the AOL .ART file filter has been disabled to protect your system from this threat, which is deemed to be "High Risk" by Microsoft.

I have not used the program but ACDSee Pro Photo Manager claims it can open the .art file extension. It has a free trial download available but I don't know it's limitations.

Well have tried all the tips posted above except for,
( Or, for more detailed GUI editing: http://gimp.org/ )
and they all failed to convert .art files to jpeg.
BMP coverts easily to jpeg.

It seems that .art format was a joint venture between MS/AOL years ago.

As Cashanova pointed out in that: MS Security Bulletin
Due to "A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way AOL ART images are handled", the AOL .ART file filter has been disabled to protect your system from this threat, which is deemed to be "High Risk" by Microsoft.
I think MS is blocking them files from being opened by IE anymore.

Even ACDSee Pro Photo Manager that claims it can open the .art file extension couldn't open or convert .art files.

Agreed it's a nice program.
So is Irfanview.

Only thing is they won't open/convert .art files.

Here's one more to try if you don't mind installing yet another shareware program: Graphic Workshop Professional

There are also claims that AOL itself will convert .art to .jpg but I don't know that you want to mess with AOL.

If you know someone still with AOL perhaps they could convert the files (if the second link is still accurate on that, it isn't when it says IE can read/convert an .art file - due to the security update).

Thanks Cashanova,
Graphic Workshop Professional did open & covert .art pix to jpeg, bmp or whatever you want it to!
Only played around with it a couple minutes and it converts easy once you figure out their program.
It looks like a nice little program.
These were some old AOL pix. It appears the .art ext is about half the size of the jpeg it converts your pic to.
Been online about 9 years and recall this old .art ext AOL used back then. Forgot all about it until being sent a couple of these old .art pix.
Started out, like most, on AOL until realizing how limited and crappy AOL's servers were/are, then dumped AOL and my PC ran 100% better!

You're right, I didn't want to go back and mess around with AOL again....;)

LOL.
It's just a cute pic a friend sent for old times sake, that wouldn't open anymore, nothing racy or xxx rated...;)

It opened OK with Win98 but wouldn't open anymore after switching to XP awhile back and didn't know why.
