A spanish toymaker has come out with this doll.

http://www.theblogofrecord.com/2009/08/05/bebe-gloton-breastfeeding-doll-for-little-girls/

Would you let your daughter have this toy?

At first, I was shocked someone would make this, but then after the initial shock wore and I thought about it, I really didn't think it was such a big deal. It is a toy after all and little girls see their moms breastfeed their little brothers & sisters all the time. Just another medium for girls to mimic their moms in preparation for the responsibilities of motherhood I suppose.

So what do you think?

What's the biggie? it's not like she is stripping down or anything, she is strapping on a chest cover for heavens sake. Sheesh, people get worked up over the silliest things.

the hobby needs more capitalism
I have a live and let live attitude about stuff like this but I'm not a fan of anything that would give girls "baby fever" either.

I once plopped my ass down next to a breastfeeding mom and told her the kid invited me for dinner, she wasn't amused. I thought it was funny.

I think people should be more concerned about dolls you can have sex with, like the "real doll", or those fake vaginas. All those promote is the fact that if you need a doll to screw, you are a loser. At least this one is a real life experience trainer.

These days with sex being available to anyone at any age online, it makes sense to teach about things like this at an earlier age.

I think the big problem is that people feel the breasts of women are a sexual thing but infact they were made for the purpose of feeding babies. Now if it were a vagina or a pussy then I would be outraged. Also dolls usually come with bottles for little girls to bottle feed them and this day and age it is taught that breast feeding is the more natural and healthier alternative. If children are allowed to have dolls like this it could make them more comfortable with the idea of breast feeding rather than choosing bottle feeding in the future. The ones with the problem with this doll would be the ones making the child feel that breastfeeding is shameful and sexual. JMHO

She should be thinking about beoming a doctor or something at that age not a mum.
Thank goodness you don't have kids. I prefer to let mine decide their careers and parenting options. Hopefully they will have happy and balanced lives. No toy will determine that outcome. But it might help them overcome hangups like yours.

I just have to state that there is many skills required in life besides an education. Life lessons are often the biggest lessons you can learn. Education as important as it is is not going to give people tolerance, survival, social skills etc... Children have to get out in different situations often. The more activities they get involved in the better. If they never to to a restaraunt they will not know how to behave in those environments and would be very shy to enter such places in the future. Anything new to someone can be strange to them and likely to be avoided in the future. eg. Someone who never learned to swim at a young age would likely never learn how to swim when older.

hangup? that an education is important? and going to uni is non negotiable?
Reminds me of the Family Guy cutaway, demontsrating the tightness of Asian families.

Dad "you doctor yet?"
Kid "no dad. i'm twelve"
Dad "talk to me when you doctor"

University is non-negotiable? What happens if your child wanted a career that involved college rather than university?

I decided after reading what was in the title thread to vote and post my opinion before reading what others thought.
This is much ado about nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero.
As far as I am concerned anyone who is up in arms over this has their head on backwards.

...and that is why their Moms could not breastfeed them.

my point is that little kids should be encouraged to go to uni and get a career before being encourage to become a mother.
I was unaware that the two were mutually exclusive.

From my observation one of the interesting generational differences between women in their 50's and women in their 20's is that while many of the former were very conflicted over motherhood when it interfered with their career, for women in their 20's the vast majority plainly state that motherhood takes priority.

Frankly I think that the 20 somethings have it right, and that any office which does not agree deserves to fail.

Further, I fully agree with you about the benefits of a good education. Which are not all job related.
