Ultimately meaningless. Companies will make the fee back in a week or two through savings on the salaries of the Canadians they shitcan and replace with the temp foreign workers.

Reduce social programs. Open up the borders. Let the best come and prosper, but in an environment where they take care of themselves. This 'gate-keeping' mentality is barbaric.

The whole issue of worker visas as opposed to Spouse (and Not in Canada anymore fiancé(e)) visas is to put it mildly complicated!

This fee will not affect applications under the TFW program where a specific skill is required which is unavailable (or in too-short supply) in Canada.

It should have a discouraging effect on the perceived abuses under the TFW program where foreign cooks have been hired instead of hiring qualified Canadians.

Does this mean we will see more foreign strippers?

A few years back my company hired a skilled computer developer using TFW program. Best hire we ever made and now the worker and his family are full Canadian citizens and productive members of the economy. I don't think the $275 will discourage companies from using this program and I understand the requirement to look on Canadian soil first, every country does the same.
