I'm looking everywhere for help with this one.......

I get the grey box pop up with this message

"C:\Docume~1\JnT\Locals~1\Temp\funu6lcsq999.exe could not be saved because you cannot change the contents of that folder.
Change the folder properties or try saving to a differant location"

I get this message when trying to play games or download ....

I run mozilla but similar message appears when I use explorer

properties show all \local settings\ folders/files to be read only......but unchecking the read only box does nothing.....re-open properties and it says read only again...

sooooooo frustrated

Well it's in a temp folder so that's good.
What I would do is get that temp folder cleaned out initially.
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx
Get the basic build.
Close your browsers (all of them).
Open CCleaner, click on run cleaner.
It deletes all the unecessary muck on your computer, nothing vital.
Restart, see what happens.
If nothing, then it could be a little more involved, which I think it may be.

Have you tried saving to a different folder as suggested in the error message?

In firefox, go to tools->options download tab and change the default download directory or request that it ask you where to save each download. Then you can make sure it's trying to save in a folder that can be written into.

It only affects temporary downloads.... like games, videos, apps.....
when the save box appears with regular downloads I have no problem.

I've tried changing the save directory....but that doesn't change where your browser saves temp files....

Restore didn't change anything.....

I'm lost on this...... I posted this on the message board for "the tech guys" and it's the only post with no replies !!!! aarrggh

thanks for trying though....

Try deleting that Temp directory. It may be bad on a bad spot on the disk and when it is recreated (you may have to do it manually if the system won't) it may come back in a different, "better" spot.

go into safe mode F8. delete it through there.
tap F8 after the initial text screen when powering up your computer.

As an alternative try going to www.hijackthis.de

Not as bad as it sounds. The have a small utility that you download and it creates a text file of your registry. You take the ext file and put it in the hijackthis window and it analyses your registry for known bugs, spyware problems etc...from there you can make the changes. I've found this site quite invalubale for obscure poroblems.
