When I powered up my computer today I got a bunch of Windows Security/Windows Defender popup messages saying how my computer is infected with 30+ trojans/viruses/etc. I know it's all bullshit because it's also making access to the internet difficult (with popups) and disabling my Malware Bytes program. The popups are also annoying and keep asking me to activate Defender.

How can I get rid of this?

I tried restarting in Safe mode to access Malware Bytes but the virus blocked that.

Need help!!!

EDIT: Should have also mentioned that I did a McAfee scan and it came up empty. I also tried to do a System Restore but it's been somehow disabled (nothing happens when I click on the System Restore button).

try to download a program like avg or anti vir and install ,

here are the download links i suggest if you can download and then scan let those get rid as much as possible
http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html <-- antivir
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html <- avg

and as well http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Free-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10045910.html <-- this has a startup scan that hopefully will help.

I've never heard of Malwarebytes is it part of the McAfee Security package?

If it isn't you have a conflict that's found it's way into your registry. I used to have multiple utilities but they now wreak havoc with more advanced versions of Windows, unless you are tech-savy I don't recommend toying with your registry on your own. Pay the fee to your geek squad and get the hard drive cleaned.

Example: I used to run Black Ice Firewall with McAfee Anti-Virus, it worked well until Windows 2000, after that chaos.

Malwarebytes is a very well known scanner for malware. It's not the problem. It's worked fine for me in the past.

The problem is that my system has become infected and won't allow me to run any other anti-virus programs to get rid of it.

Tried to re-download Malwarebytes but when I click to install nothing happens...
I had the 'Security Tool' virus on my laptop last night. Sounds like the same thing you have and exactly what is described in the following link...

I followed the steps and downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and that seems to have cleaned it up. I had to try to install the Malware numerous times because the virus kept blocking it but eventually it installed.

Thanks, I'm going to try that. It looks like exactly the same thing I have except that mine masquerades as Vista Defender. But otherwise it's doing the exact same thing in the exact same way.

Another reason to dump M$ and move to FREE Linux

LOL!
Hey Keeb, I don't know what 'sites' you've been hitting but you do seem to have your fair share of bugs, malware, spyware, viruses, etc., lately!....

This is another reason to learn/run Linux so you can hit any sites you desire and not have to worry about a thing!

If you are running IE & you are having a problem downloading Malwarebytes , try a different browser for downloads.

Something to always remember is that when you get one of these friggin bugs is to note the specifics of it and then do a search on the net for a remedy. In 99.9% of the time you are likely the millionth person to get it and a solution is at hand. Glad you got it fixed and FUCK LINUX!

Virus.....spyware.....malware(malicious softaware) all different to me. Some AV only protect against AV and not spyware and malicious software.

No one protection does it all. I always use some of the following - AVG, super anti spyware, spyblaster, malwarebytes and Spybot S/D.

Did i mention....FUCK LINUX?
LOL!
Fine then enjoy all your bugs, malware, spyware, viruses, etc., that come part and parcel with M$.
Have fun getting infected over and over and over, then wasting all that time Googling and figuring out how to clean it out, to get your PC running back to normal again.....

LOL!!!!!!
Don't forget CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, AdAware, Spy Sweeper, etc..... ad nauseum.

Then you have to De-Frag it periodically and do your system maintenance!

WHAT A FARKING JOY M$ IS!!!!! LOL

This is WHY I dumped M$ for LINUX, which requires NONE of the above, oh and it's all FREE!
With Linux you just turn your PC on and run it WORRY FREE, like a PC should be used!....
