I know there is a lifetime of computer knowledge residing amongst the members of this board and I would like to tap into that for help and assistance.

I am in need of a new laptop/notebook. Have leased a Dell Inspiron 7500 for past three years and the lease is up this month. Do I stay with Dell or are there other manufacturers I should be considering. Only real complaint I have with the 7500 is its weight [enough to dislocate your shoulder!!]. The laptop regularly travels between home, office, cottage and vacation destinations so am looking for something with all the 'bells and whistles' of the 7500 but less weight. Thin profile and long battery life would be a couple of considerations as well.

Look forward to any and all comments and suggestions.

With thanks,

Fine Wine

If your Lapper is actually 3 years old you will be utterly amazed by how far laptop computers have come since you bought that one. They are now much lighter than they were 3 years ago and they have better battery power. The technologies involved have improved a lot in the last few years and continue to do so.

Pretty well anything you get today, even a bottom end laptop will be lighter etc. If you buy something that is at an equal place on the Dell line up then it will have more bells and whistles than you will likely ever need unless you use your laptop as an entertainment computer rather than a work computer.

As far as Dell goes, I personally think they are fine for laptops though I wouldn't buy a desktop system from them. Though they are among the better for pre-built desktops too.

This info is all IMHO but dell had always been good for me maybe a new one from them. I like Toshibas - but get the Pentium not the celeron - compaq - had good luck as well - an AMD I think - I personally do not like the sony viao We have sent 5 laps back of these no other mentioned sent back - all these I haved owned I generally upgrade every 6 months or year. My 1st pick is always Dell - but I have had the others cause I also have to sell to my company (and they are really fricken cheap) been through all the above now we are all Dell again. Support wise I have found Dell the best Toshiba 2nd , Compaq 3rd - keep in mind I don't need alot of support and this is likely based on 1 - or 2 calls to each mentioned .
