Marvin Hamlisch, who composed or arranged the scores for dozens of movies including "The Sting" and the Broadway smash "A Chorus Line," has died in Los Angeles. He was 68.

Hamlisch collapsed and died Monday after a brief illness, his publicist Ken Sunshine said on behalf of the family. Other details were not released.

Heard him live in concert where he took song title suggestions from the audience and composed songs on the spot. He had a great rapport with the audience - when one gentleman shouted out "Have I Got A Girl For You!", Hamlisch replied, "Sir, is that a song title, or should we talk after the show?" (or words to that effect). He then sang a song which culminated with the following lines:
Have I got a girl for you,
best of all,
she's an Orthodox Jew!

A great talent gone too soon, but what a legacy he leaves for us to enjoy!

Truly a loss.

Along with Maurice Jarre, Dimitri Tiomkin, Ennio Morricone and John Barry, one of the great all-time film composers.

What is even sadder is I don't see much up and coming talent in Marvin's caliber to replace him....:frown:
