Got an iBook last year, happy with it, although I think the speed could go up a bit... have 256 Mb RAM and am looking to add another 512 possibly, in addition to getting Tiger. Will I see a big difference in speed? Also, is it possible to replace the combo drive with a super drive, or should I just get an external firewire DVD-R?

I have the G4 iBook as well. I also have the iMac at home.
I put an extra 512mb ram in the iMac and it made virtually no difference in speed. It will however run programs a bit faster - video, etc.
I presume the same would be true if you upgraded the ram in the iBook.
