With Provolone (Justice) League underwhelming at the box-office, have comic book films reached a saturation point?
Most of these films are hit and miss with no middle ground. Of the last three comic book I've seen; Logan was excellent, Wonder Woman was very good and Deadpool was meh. I watched Deadpool due to it's R rating, that is deceiving. The film is specifically directed toward 14 year old boys and the CGI action sequences were done better in Kick Ass. I haven't bothered with Iron Man after the second film turned out to be a MacMovie and I'm not that interested in the Avengers. When I heard that the original story for Suicide Squad had been scrapped , I gave it a pass. It was supposed to be about the abusive relationship between The Joker and Harley Quinn. The Warner Bros executives shat their pants and the film was changed. WB has been rudderless since Christopher Nolan left.
Venom may be the last comic book film I'll ever see - provided Sony don't chicken out. Andy Serkis has joined the film, but not to be in it. The film will be motion capture and his company will orchestrate the action sequences. It's still not known if he'll take an active role in the film. it's up to Tom Hardy and Reuben Fleischer to save Sony from their own stupidity. They practically drove the Spiderman franchise into the arms of the MCU. Fleischer in particular needs a hit, he hasn't had one since Zombieland.
