The problem, as outlined by Trump, was that the Republicans weren't going to stop the electoral college vote count.
There is a reason they were chanting to hang Mike Pence.
Targeting both offices is consistent with that view.
The other question now is whether or not this guy has already been pardoned in the general pardon Trump gave everyone for January 6.
I assume the DOJ will, in this case, not consider him pardoned for this crime, but you never really know.

When this story first broke and the names of the perps were released there but was no description of race given.
Bill Maher was talking about it on his show and one of his guests said well we know they are black...She got some push back on this claim but she said we know they are black because the race wasn't released if they were white guys it would be front and center.
