I finally picked up a MacBook recently and will be donating my desktop to a friend. A reformat is not an option since she has asked that I keep all of the installed programs on there.

What else can I do to remove any and all confidential information (deleted files, searches, sites I've visited, etc.) from my computer? I have been using CCleaner for a number of years. Will running it alone suffice?

No. Windows keeps records of lots of your stuff buried in 'hidden files' that a tech savvy person can easily find and see. If you are really concerned here, the best thing to do is remove and keep your old HDD.
