Clapping For Bush In Calgary...

In other news, the CBC reports that 1,500 people showed up today in Calgary to give ex-president Bush a standing ovation. Considering we have a population of 33 million, i still worry who are these 1,500 people, and what are they clapping for? Why would 1,500 Canadians show up to clap for Bush? What is wrong with them? It sends the world a wrong signal.

Thanks, but I am over that stage in life where i protest on the street. Now i just hide my money. It makes me feel better that Bush is no longer in a position to cover for Cheney playing out a fascist regime. Cheney profited 1.5 billion in the last 8 years from his franchise. How much did you make? And how much did i lose because of it. Those are a couple of my minor concerns

It is Calgary. A lot of people attending Bush's
speech are probably from the oil business. I am
not familar with western and central Canada but
isn't there a significant presence of evangelical christians?
Bush surely has a lot of fans among the christains.

Wish he was in Montreal, Vancouver or
Toronto where the reception would have been
more Canadian.

Dubya no doubt went to Calgary since that is the only place that might welcome him and he still gets a lousy reception....;)

As a Canadian who knows my country, and one who has worked in the oil patch, i will tell you that southern Albertans (people from Calgary especially) tend to be frustrated Americans. They even have developed a kind of accent since the 50's that sets them apart from other Canadians. Oil has that effect on people. I saw it in the middle east as well. Arrogance.

Many Texans suffer from the same malady.

I flew down to Waco once for a meeting. It was my first ever experience in the outback of Texas. That night i was all excited about getting out to the local bar, thought i might meet a Tx Chick, maybe even get lucky... Well, i was the only guy in the bar without cowboy boots (2 pairs left at home in the closet) and worse, the only, i repeat ONLY guy in a bar of 200 people without a stetson. The hat part that threw me off; half the guys were wearing a black stetson, the other half, a white stetson. And these were BIG hats. I though later maybe it was the local chess club, out for a Tuesday night at the bar. Anyway, i had one two-step dance and went home to the hotel. The other odd thing, a lot of the guys were noticeably short. They were probably mostly texmex in origin i supposed.
