Your place!!
A City of Toronto committee approved empowering the police to seize the cars of any johns that were arrested for violating anti-hooker laws. Needs approval by provincial legislation tho to become a reality.
Reported in Saturdays Sun. page 7.

Presumably this would only apply to those picking up "streetwalkers." With the other much better choices one has in Toronto why take the risk.

If someone must pick up girls on the street... here are a few tips I have picked up from other websites.

It is legal to offer a girl a ride.

your car cannot be seized if you park it and approach the girls on foot.

Never negotiate or talk about pricing on the street or through a car window.

In a sting operation, the female officer posing as a hooker will never get in your car.

Also, if they ask for permission to search the vehicle, always say "no, not without a warrant"

best approach... park a few blocks away, approach girls on foot, then take a cab back to your car with the girl & negotiate with her once cab starts driving, that way your vehicle was not used while committing the crime & cannot be seized

Or.. just offer the girl a ride, and talk pricing after you have driven away.

Or you could ask the girl for her cell number and call for details later.

Alberta & I believe Manitoba have been seizing cars for a couple years. The thought behind it is that the vehicle enables you to commit the crime. Take away the vehicle and you take away the ability to commit the crime again.

In a very dark place
TPS web page shows they arrested 40 guys this week in 51 Div.

Seems to be just street activity.

My advice? Take the TTC. Provides opportunity for extreme wit i.e. train going through tunnel jokes. You could also try bicycling. Just make sure to wear a helmet.

What it is, is theft, and taxation. The government steals your car and leaves you with nothing but the debt. Naturally the Communists and the idiot "Law and Order" types don't see this.

Well, you have pretty much described the entire Toronto City Council, the majority of whom are left-leaning, tax-tax and more tax, morons. How do these jerks keep getting elected?

I find these "law enforcement" efforts to be dishonest and without purpose.

Anyone who has driven by the "tracks" during their hours of operation over the years knows that SW activity is a virtual trickle compared to what it was 10 years ago. The rise of the internet, successful incalls, and improved ability to act as an independant (Craigslist, other free advertisement venues) has caused the change, rather than police enforcement. Most of the time, there will be less than 10 girls working the lower track at any one time. Most of these are too horrifying to be doing much business.

When I read that 40 johns were picked up in a fairly short sweep, my first reaction is "bullshit". There just aren't that many SWs out there these days, and not enough "newbies" chasing them to be caught in such numbers. My read on such news is that it's the kind of thing the police can claim without having to back it up and which makes them look like they're doing something.

Secondly, even if the cops are out sweeping for SW johns, I think it is a useless law enforcement exercise. SWs wised up long ago and moved away from the areas where clean cut businesses are trying to operate and they don't frequent residential neighbourhoods where the residents can lay much claim that hookers are bringing the neighbourhood down! Most of the SWs who remain are either welfare mothers trying to make ends meet or crack addicts. No police sweep will ever clean the streets of crack addicts, so long as the lefties on city council don't think you can pick up homeless people or force anyone to receive medical treatment which they obviously need.

In short, while I understand the political reasons for these initiatives, the hypocrisy and deceipt makes me sick.

Perhaps the cops might focus their efforts on better policing in Malvern instead!

Bad idea. Sure, they can not touch your car without a warrant, but they will not let you go anywhere until they get the warrant. How long do you think that is going to take? A few hours? If you have nothing to hide, just let them go at it, it will be quicker that waiting for the warrant, smart ass!.

How is it a bad idea??? it is called standing up for your rights. I believe we are protected against unlawful searches.

They can search your vehicle without a warrant.. but they need a very good reason... IE.. smell pot, or see something illegal through the window.

I have played the waiting game before... a few times. And each time, the cop was trying to use intimidate me into allowing a search of my vehicle. I am well within my rights to deny him as he did not have any reasonable suspicion. I have nothing to hide in my vehicle. The first time, I waited for the "warrant" and after 15 minutes, the cop said it was my lucky day and then he rushed to Tim Hortons to meet his other pig buddies for coffee. The second time, I sat waiting in my car for 1.5 hours, until I finally walked up to the pigs car and told him that I knew he could not get a warrant and unless I was being placed under arrest that I was leaving. He had some choice words and I went on my way.

I should say that I was never pulled over for picking up girls!!!

Another thing.. when they ask you where you are coming from and where you are going... it is none of their fucking business

Picking up street walkers is a bad idea. Period. Unlike other forms of prostitution the cops are out to shut this down. They'd rather prostitution was out of sight. Why put yourself on the firing line?

Guys who get arrested for this are just dumb. Sorry to those of you who have been charged--but you were dumb.

Street Walkers can be a nuisance to local residents. Nobody wants chicks sucking guys off in their back yards and tossing the condom on your lawn.

To me, the SW's are just street scape. Nice to look at, but I wouldn't think about picking one up. There are lots of better, far better choices out there.

However, that said, I would suggest that Cherry street south of the Gardiner and Commissioners Street would be PERFECT for a regulated red light district.
