Church Contradicts WHO re. Aids & Condoms

Morgan Ellis

The Catholic Church is telling people in countries stricken by Aids not to use condoms because they have tiny holes in them through which HIV can pass - potentially exposing thousands of people to risk.
The church is making the claims across four continents despite a widespread scientific consensus that condoms are impermeable to HIV....

They also tell people in countries stricken by AIDS that one should should not engage in pre-marital or extra-marital sex - have only one sexual partner in life, who also has had only one partner.

I don't think they intend their teachings to be taken a la carte.

Must be some mistake here. Probably didn't say condoms had "little holes". Probably said they were "little holies"! Yeah, that's it. Little holies!! :p

Context?

While I don't agree with some of Cardinal Trujillo's statements as presented, particulary the incredibly strong argument "They are wrong about that... this is an easily recognisable fact.", there may be some logic in what the Church is saying. Since even the WHO acknowledges that condoms reduce the risk of HIV transmission by 90%, do you really want nations in which HIV affects 20% of the population to believe that condoms are the answer they've been looking for.

But as is always the case, the Churches long established positions on sex and family are taken out of context because they make great headlines.

Sex education and safe sex for that matter does not consist exclusively of passing out condoms.

Damnit Doctor.
The introduction of facts will only confuse the issue for many.

No, but I'd like them to believe that they are, no matter what the small margin of failure, still better than having unprotected sex.

If not, why don't we all just suggest that clients and hobbyists *here* toss them out the window and ride bareback? After all, there *is* that possible ten percent failure margin...

But as is always the case, the Churches long established positions on sex and family are taken out of context because they make great headlines.
It's the Church's equally long established position on trying to scare the beejesus out of anyone who f*cks for fun instead of for kiddies that worries me. Well, they're down with the priest thing, but for the rest of us? Uh uh.

Of course not - but it also doesn't consist of telling people that condoms are pointless. Well, maybe for some it does.

Is it possible the condoms being passed out in the poorer countries aren't up to par? (Leaky condom = disease) Think about it for a second.

Besides, I don't believe the Catholic Church was telling everyone to go out and have bareback sex. They have been preaching the same thing for centuries, abstinence until marriage. It's funny how things can be turned around and misinterpreted.

Ah the Catholic Church.....ain't she just wonderful. But first a few words about Cardinal Trujillo. He is an idiot! Always was, always will be. He cheated his way through the Seminary and was caught on more than one occasion lip syncing the rosary during the 4:00 pm prayer.

Please take whatever he says with a grain of salt. Immediately followed by a tequila shooter and a lime.

That reminds me.

Did the President of South Africa ever admit that HIV does cause AIDS?
