TIA.

I'm sorry to hear about your pain. I have been on pain management before so I can relate. You need to work with your family doctor. Luckily, enough my pain was acute and I was able to work through things with family doc. If your family doc is concerned with the dose needed to manage pain he/she will refer you to a pain mgmt clinic in your area. If you don't mind me asking? What type of pain are we talking about here?

You might want to get a referral to a physiatrist. Had a friend who was in a bike accident and saw one for a couple of years and helped her get back on track.

I'm on full disability and can't afford any health services not covered by OHIP or ODSP. That includes no acupuncture, no massage therapy, no chiropractic treatments and no physiotherapy. The only thing I can get is prescription drugs to help with the pain. Otherwise I'm kind of stuck.

I can't say this often enough. go easy on the prescriptions.
I try. I only use the percocet as a last resort and most of the time make out okay on tylenol #2 or #3. Does anyone know if a visit or consultation to a chronic pain clinic is even covered by OHIP?

+1 to Rockslinger. I've also got pain issues and the doctors are more than happy to push pills at you.

Double check the drug side effects on Wikipedia - always always always do this. Many of the pain medications at the high end have nasty side effects.

SSRI and SNRI drugs are prescribed off label for pain management and can cause *permanent* brain chemistry alteration.

Opiates have the more obvious nasty side effects.

Your GP should be able to get you into a pain clinic. My experience in the burbs has been - stay the fuck out of the burbs. Access to pain clinics in the downtown core seems to be much better. Try one of the hospitals in the university health network http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Health_Network or Mt. Sinai downtown.

Pain clinics should be covered by OHIP if you have a referral by a GP. Some procedures may not be fully covered, it really depends on what you need.
