It's the entire cloud inside your browser.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore

App Stores are the new big thing. Everyone has to have one, but there can't be an infinite number of platforms.

The iTunes App Store has the huge strength of the iOS devices behind it, and not far behind is the Android Marketplace with the all the Android phones sourcing from it. RIM has its own ready for its next-generation PlayBook and BlackBerry phones, and HP/Palm still has some hopes left in the one for WebOS.

Google's new big splash is now in the Chrome OS space, which is an operating system that exists in the browser and draws from the cloud. Of course, a platform is only as good as the software, and Google today launched the Chrome Web Store.

It's important to note that all current Chrome users can download and run the apps, even without a Chrome OS notebook.

Just curious bottie?

Will you even admit to how much YOU blew so far buying Apple apps?....

FWIW, since using Linux for over 4 years, I have NOT spent one red cent for Linux apps.

What does that have to do with Chrome OS web app store? Chrome apps are cloud based and ready to be used in Chrome Browser in PC's or Chrome OS netbooks

Well first I wouldn't say I've "blew" any money but it's a good question, I'll have to look at my Apple account and see.

You have been using linux apps for 4 years and you have never sent any of the developers or maintainers a donation?

Shame on you.

I've spent 36 and change on apps for my iPhone/iPad (mostly on the iPad), interesting that my son has spent 27 (games for his iPod Touch) on apps - but he get's gift cards for xmas/birthdays.... so he still has a credit balance.

The App count on the Mac is:

44 Universal Apps (iPad, iPhone/iTouch)
125 iPhone/iTouch
70 iPad

for a total of 239 apps - there could be some double counting in there (I don't know if Angry Birds for instance is a universal app or if we bought it twice).

The only 'donation' made was over 4 yrs ago when I bought a instructional book/text with OS install disk on Fedora when first giving Linux a spin. Passed that book to a friend interested in Linux since then. It was an excellent easy to read manual noting the beauty of Linux/Unix and free open source software they use. The author made a point of saying the best part of Linux is that it is FREE unlike M$ and Apple and keeping it FREE is their mission. I see no reason to quibble over their mission.

Just curious, since you run Linux, how much did you 'donate' so far....

Not bad. Most M$ users shell out more than that.
I know I used to before switching to FREE Linux.
It's nice being M$ & Apple FREE....

Gartner Says Worldwide Mobile Application Store Revenue Forecast to Surpass $15 Billion in 2011

Revenue Between 2010 and 2014 is Forecast to Grow 1,000 Percent to Reach $58 Billion

Egham, UK, January 26, 2011—
Worldwide mobile application store downloads are forecast to reach 17.7 billion downloads in 2011, a 117 percent increase from an estimated 8.2 billion downloads in 2010, according to Gartner, Inc. By the end of 2014, Gartner forecast over 185 billion applications will have been downloaded from mobile app stores, since the launch of the first one in July 2008.

Worldwide mobile application store revenue is projected to surpass $15.1 billion in 2011, both from end users buying applications and applications themselves generating advertising revenue for their developers. This is a 190 percent increase from 2010 revenue of $5.2 billion.

.....

......

"We estimate that Apple's App Store drove close to nine application downloads out of 10 in 2010 and will remain the single best-selling store across our forecast period (through 2014), although to a lesser extent, as other stores manage to gain momentum."
