I thought Chinese Star Wars was just to sit in a theatre with a camcorder and tape the movie. Then sell the tape on the street for $2.

I'm not really a big fan of Star Wars or Star Trek but this might be of interest to you guys. the Turks don't really seem to believe much in copyright laws -- floating around in the world are two wierd ass remakes of STAR WARS and STAR TREK. good luck finding the DVD's. From another source here's a description of "Turkish Star Wars" --

"For anyone who has not seen any Turkish cinema, Turkish Star Wars is certainly the best barometer you can find. Using actual footage from the original Star Wars, the story is about 2 space fighter pilots who are shot down over a desert planet and discover a colony of people who are being oppressed by horse back riding mutant savages! It's up to them to save the people from the oppressive mutants! Combining life size evil Muppets with a Flash Gordon like bad guy; and stealing not only footage and soundtrack from Star Wars, but music from Indiana Jones and others."

this particular translator seems to display a fondness for utilizing the "f" word for just about anything:

actual script
obi wan: "who could have done this?"

translation
this is what who fuck

or

actual script
obi wan grows impatient with r2

translation
R2, do you is fucking

This was explained in one of the comments lower down on the blog page:

"It looks like someone took a poorly translated mainland Simplified Chinese script and ran it through Babelfish from Traditional Chinese into English.

Jedi Council -> zhanglaohui ("Council of Elders" or "Presbyterian Church") -> Presbyterian Church

to do -> gan ("to do" or "to fuck") -> to fuck

like -> xiang ("similar to", "elephant") -> elephant"

I recently bought a Chinese DVD of Team America: World Police, on Spadina, just south of Baldwin. I can't play it on my DVD player, but it works fine on my computer's DVDR drive. I get the same type of odd subtitles when I specify English closed captions in the setup menu.

Bought a Japanese Anime "Appleseed" and "Kung Fu Hustle" in Thailand.

The English subtitles on both were pretty bad.

Appleseed was the worst...Finally had to just watch it in Japanese and use my limited Japanese to follow the dialogue....
My friend tried to watch it with Thai subtitles and she had to quit as well because the Thai subtitles were so fucked up....

Kung Fu Hustle wasn't as bad probably because the dialogue was not as complicated as Appleseed...

Also bought the Star Wars: Return of the Sith in Thailand. Didn't really look but I think the English subtitles weren't too impressive...
The movie had been taped from a movie theatre in Russia....
