I will keep this brief.

The scene in China is dead - especially to foreigners. I have been travelling throughout the country the last few months - in a few cities.

I'm this post I'm talking about mainland - not Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan.

There is a little hope if you are Asian/Chinese - and/or speak Chinese. But even in such a case taxi drivers, businessmen, and people generally agree the scene is not what it used to be.
In the words of one taxi driver: 'there has been a severe crackdown in the last few years.'
I have seen business cards on the ground in the street advertising 'massages' which were obviously not massages(girls pictured on the card in lingerie/bikini) - but the number attached to the card is a very risky call.
Especially as a foreigner you risk involvement with the police which will not end well - either jail or paying huge bribes. Possibly both.
One taxi driver said he knew a karaoke place where you could get girls, they sing for you, pour your drinks, generally entertain you and go home with you at the end of the night.
The cost of this (I was quoted) is ~250$ - 1000$ CAD; it sounds expensive at first but when you think of it ~500$ for a night of entertainment with a cute girl signing for you and pouring you drinks and then going home with her isn't so bad.
But I didn't try.
Another taxi driver directed me to a red light district where there was a lot of street walkers; I checked it out & there were some gorgeous women but it was so disgustingly grimy; I imagine roach hotels and damp unwashed sheets. I approached one girl who refused foreigners. I'm told many women refuse foreigners.

I was in one regular massage parlour at a normal time and the police visited, asking mine, and everyone's ID, walking into all the rooms.
It was surreal.

If anyone has any solid leads about how to approach the scene in China please say so!
