I’m going to visiting relatives in Oakland California the weekend of December 21st leaving on that Friday and departing Sunday the 23rd back home. Can anyone recommend an airline or is stand-by the way to go that will fly direct from Toronto or a drive to Buffalo if it’s cheaper? Thanks.

Oakland may be one of the rare destination cheap from YYZ instead of BUF.
Airlines are flying smaller & more packed flights, so you're really taking a chance flying standby, if you even get outbound. It seems airline don't offer decent vouchers anymore. UA was giving $50 vouchers for seat on my last over-booked flight.
